The gallery itself is fairly small and tucked into a heritage building which frankly is not all that impressive, so really the quality of the exhibition pretty much determines your experience. There was a joint exhibition between RMIT and HK schools and it was rather interesting and also made good use of the exhibition space. So yes, for us it was worth spending a hour or so there.

Tucked rather incongruously in the basement level of a building in Melbourne this small art gallery is at least making use of a space to put some art out into the community. The young staff were friendly and while the displays at the time of my visit didn't thrill me for the most part there were some interesting ideas in there.
Entry was free so if you are walking down Swanston Street and stroll by why not take five minutes to have a look?

RMIT University is a centre for education in the arts. Apart from the graphic arts, RMIT is acknowledged as a leading school for fashion and design. The RMIT Gallery shows creations by RMIT students. The Gallery is easy to find, it is in Swanston St, Melbourne.

RMIT Gallery is housed in Storey Hall, one of the city's best-known heritage buildings. Storey Hall is associated with RMIT University. RMIT is known for its creative courses. and the Gallery displays things such as fashion, design and art. The RMIT Gallery is in Swanston St, it's easy to find. Check on opening hours, which may vary due to Covid restrictions. By the way, RMIT often displays cutting-edge art and design.

The RMIT Gallery is located in the former Storey Hall. The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) was once the Working Man's College. It has evolved into a university where creativity is prized. The art school is highly thought of; the RMIT Gallery has a series of revolving displays, where young artists can show their work. It's in Swanston Street, near the State Library of Victoria; it's well worth dropping in if you are in the area.; entry is gratis.

Small gallery but always has a every changing selection of interesting contemporary work. Can just pop in quickly if you're in that part of town. And it's free. Definitely worth checking out. Be sure to not miss the room to the right of reception.

Excellent little public art gallery full of exciting exhibitions housed in the historic Storey Hall (1887) building & is the main art gallery for the RMIT university. Its definitely worth visiting to see what's being exhibited as the artwork does change frequently. We saw the" Dynamics of Air" exhibition which was rather interesting.

The Gallery is in the former Storey Hall, renamed as Building 16, next to Building 8 in Swanston Street. There is a ramp on the left hand side or step stairs at the front. Currently there is an exhibition on "Air". The movement of air and its properties, both in the context of art and physics. It is a fun and fascinating display. It is free, too.

RMIT Gallery is a modest (in size) gallery/exhibition space that has a constant program of temporary exhibitions. These are often touring shows and exchange programs from overseas, and sometimes offer the only chance to see the exhibits in Australia. Given the connection with RMIT, the tone of many exhibitions can be quite academic, but it also means there are some fascinating cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary shows covering music, technology, design, politics, anthropology, the environment and identity. And as it's free to get in, it's a bonus for the budget-conscious visitors!
