For those unfamiliar with Bill Wyman, he was the bass player for the Rolling Stones until the early 1990s.
He has a band called Bill Wyman's Rhythm KIngs which performs some great covers of blues and R&B standards. The Rhythm Kings feature some first rate session players and some great guest artists, like Peter Frampton, Eric Clapton and others of that calibre.
This is a four CD set containing four of Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings CD's released between 1998 and 2001. There's some very good playing and some great material here. Well worth checking out if you're a blues or R&B fan.
Great economical way to get the first 4 Rhythm King albums which are all fantastic. Don't stop here though, there's still the live album and "Just For A Thrill" to go. If you don't order them now, you'll just order them later after you listen to this, it's that good.
I'm having a hard time finding a category to file this music in my collection. I love it's fun, fluent, and fluid artistry, changing with every song and delving into corners of music all over the place. No hard rock I can place right now. There are five albums here, after all, and I haven't listened carefully to everything yet. But it grooves along wherever it goes and never seems to miss the right mix of fine talents trading off. The collection includes a lot of covers, but it's the original songs that keep me going over to the stereo to see what's playing, thinking, "That's cool."
Great collection from Bill Wyman and the Rhythm Kings! I discovered this set while looking for some stuff on Peter Frampton, and what a real gem, spanning so many genres of music. The blend of original and cover material is astounding. A great addition to any music aficionado's collection.
I was expecting more of the all-original, extremely creative songs like on his newer album, "Back to basics". But this album is mostly just the same 3-chord progression tunes that most "rhythm and blues" songs have. And he doesn't even sing on most of the songs. He didn't even write many of the songs, either. If you want some of the best songs ever, get "Back to basics". It's not five discs, like this one, but they are all top-notch tunes.
