wasn't exactly what i wanted to but this still turned out great and josh stewart is a king. it took a while to really get going but once it did, it had my full attention. i loved this.
A pair of friends head into West Virginian woods strapped with cameras in the hopes of compiling a bowhunting show pilot. After a few odd occurrences and little buck action, plans seem lost as their three-day trip closes. That is until the screams of an unseen woman echo through the pines...
Inspired by a true event, it's also obvious writer-director-star Josh Stewart drew from a favorite pastime of deer hunting. Individual feelings aside, it helps if you're already a fan of such shows. The disc even includes an insert advertising bow accessories and hunting trip contest with Stewart and Tyler Jordan of Realtree. Who could've guessed, a horror movie to sit next to all eighteen volumes of Mega Whitetail Ruttin'.…
It's set up as found footage but it's really not. It has a musical score and everything. Josh Stewart, star of The Collection and The Collector, writes, directs and stars his own horror ghost story. Pretty effective ratcheting up the tension and based on Stewart's own personal ghost story. I liked it.
Although it doesn't offer much new to the found footage sub-genre of horror and the music at the climax is distractingly out-of-place, The Hunted still makes for a decent directorial debut from The Collector star Josh Stewart, with likable protagonists, fine acting, and effectively and skillfully built up tension.
Solid directorial debut for actor Josh Stewart (Pilgrim in Punisher S02) from the producers of The Collector/Collection. A forest-bound pseudo-found footage blend that kept me looking around the whole screen for something to appear. Kept me guessing for the majority of the brisk runtime—with solid naturalistic performances—up until it decides to just offload the entire suspenseful mystery surprise through exposition. Had it invested more into the lore of the area and included more scares earlier on, I think this would be a lowkey hidden gem. My primary gripe is a spoiler.
I have to admit that this movie surprised me. The story has to do with Jake wanting to do his own hunting show and is in the process of making an episode to attract someone to pick it up. With a cameraman in tow, he has three days to get enough footage for his episode. He hopes to bring down a large buck with his bow, but they soon realize there is something else in the woods as well.
This is a found-footage style film that still feels like a normal movie because there is still music over some scenes. The story is mostly just the two guys trying to find this large buck but there are a few other…
I really like Josh Stewart as an actor. He has a very relatable acting style so I was willing to give his directorial debut a chance. Unfortunately this really didn't deliver. An effective found footage film is very difficult to pull off and this one really fails on pretty much every level except for acting.
Nothing much nothing happens for about an hour and then with 20 mins left we actually start to get some tense scenes. But to little to late as most will have given up on the film by this point. The resolution is completely unsatisfying and really leaves you scratching you head and saying "thats it??" 2/5 stars.
Bonus half star for making me jump. However this one isn’t amazing. It uses non-diegetic score during the chase scenes and that’s a cardinal sin for me. Also, the weird Kevin Sorbo joke was cringey.
Like an old time horror radio show of the past, "The Hunted" harks back to a time when what you hear but cannot see gets under your skin. This is the type of found footage horror that understands how to build up tention and work on your fears of the dark.
Great job by Josh Stewart, who acted, wrote, and directed this chilling tale of what may go bump in the night.
Best viewed with surround sound and in the dark.
