What audience was this shooting for? It's like a YA take on The Hive unlocking in Resident Evil (2002). Except that crowd doesn't care, its violence feels handicapped, and f-bombs guarantee an R rating. Scanner-girl causes shivers and black "blood" to stream from orifices of anyone she encounters. Were cranial explosions too much to ask? Most of these kills are strangely followed by fades to black as if to say "Alright, that's enough for fourteen-year-old eyes." Dialogue amongst drab pipe-strewn interiors is all that remains. How this ever secured funding is baffling. Watched via PeachArch's DVD.
Reading the summary above, Warriors of Terra seems like it can be good, but wait a minute ... The "mutated human with a taste for human flesh" is called Maya and is a girl who was used as a guinea pig in an experimental treatment to cure cancer. The cancer regressed, but the treatment had a side effect: Maya injects a killer enzyme into whoever she touches, turning the person into mush. Furthermore, Maya walks jumping frames, like Japanese ghosts.
The scenes of violence are practically non-existent, unless you are afraid of lubricating oil. The film doesn't scare, it doesn't entertain, it doesn't shock and it has a lame screenplay. As much as I try to find something good in this picture, I can't.
I'm not really seeing what the hate is all about. This is an exciting, tense, and aesthetically-exhilierating piece of early 2000s horror-thriller, one of those films that has a deep theme way deep down but gets lost in having too much good, dumb 2000s scifi fun. For apologists of Mila's Resident Evil films, please seek this one out. It was made for us.
