Gdansk is a beautiful city and so easy to walk around. I was there in March this year and loved it so much I am already booked to go back next year. And I never go to the same city twice because there's always other places to see .

Wroclaw is beautiful and has much to offer. Not a huge city so you can walk pretty much everywhere. However, it's at least a couple hours from Krakow so unless you have the extra time read Robin R's suggestions. I will say that Wroclaw might be a good place to stay, probably more reasonably priced than Krakow but it really depends on what you are looking for. I never had a problem with language - or rather my lack of speaking the native tongue. As long as you are polite and patient and don't expect to be catered to you won't have any problems. My fear of going to places in Europe kept me home for too long. This year I was in Germany, Italy & Poland and found the people everywhere to be warm and welcoming as long as I remembered that I was visiting in their home and treated them as such. If you have a smart phone be sure to contact your carrier in advance so you can use it - it will come in handy. Have a wonderful time.
