Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani on Adapting The Mauritanian for The Screen [Exclusive Interview]

The Mauritanian - Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani

Mohamedou Ould Slahi shocked the world with his personal accounts behind the walls of Guantanamo Prison with his book “Guantanamo Diary” in 2015. Movie studios and writers salivated at the chance on adapting his story for the screen. For the writing duo Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, they got the opportunity to write the adaptation screenplay for The Mauritanian starring Jody Foster and Tahar Rahim.

The film was released earlier this year to a very limited theater audience. Now the film is available today as digital download and Blu-ray—the world should know the conditions and interrogations behind those prison doors.

Here’s the brief synopsis of The Mauritanian:

Captured by the United States government, Mohamedou Ould Slahi (Tahar Rahim) languishes in prison for years without charge or trial. Losing all hope, Slahi finds allies in defense attorney Nancy Hollander (Jodie Foster) and her associate Teri Duncan (Shailene Woodley). Together they face countless obstacles in a desperate pursuit for justice. Their controversial advocacy, along with evidence uncovered by formidable military prosecutor, Lt. Colonel Stuart Couch (Benedict Cumberbatch), eventually reveals a shocking and far reaching conspiracy. Based on the New York Times best-selling memoir, this is the explosive true story of a fight for survival against all odds.

The rest of the cast includes Zachary Levi and Saamer Usmani. Kevin MacDonald directed the movie from the adapted screenplay written by M.B. Traven, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani.
