Are Costco Veggie Burgers Highly Processed?

Some veggie burgers are highly processed. Occasionally vegetables account for a small portion of the ingredients, and some veggie burgers are high in calories and fat. In some cases, they may not be healthier than traditional hamburgers.

Costco veggie burgers have a short ingredient list that includes many vegetables and legumes. They have more fiber than their meat counterparts.

A big concern of veggie burgers is added salt and sugars. Highly processed foods contain these ingredients to enhance taste. While neither Costco veggie burger has more than 1g of added sugar, they have a significant amount of sodium. Both versions of Don Lee veggie burgers have over 300mg per serving.

While many assume that plant-based foods are healthier than other alternatives, that’s not always true.

What Are The Drawbacks of Veggie Burgers

Many assume that veggie burgers are healthier than traditional meat burgers; this isn’t always the case. Many brands of veggie burgers have added sodium and sugar, and some don’t contain lots of veggies!

The warehouse version has lots of veggies and grains. But it also has high amounts of sodium. These veggie burgers are not for you if you follow a low-sodium diet.

Costco veggie burgers contain a large amount of vegetables per serving.

An Honest Review of Costco Veggie Burgers

These aren’t going to replace the best hamburgers at Costco, but they are an excellent option for a quick lunch or veggie-packed dinner. We liked both the Sweet Potato Sunflower Seed blend and the Chipotle Black Bean versions. If we had to chose, we would pick the sweet potato version as they have more moisture and a brighter flavor.

The Chipotle Black Bean patties were good but tend to get a little dry. Watch the cooking times, we found that three minutes per side is ideal. It has a Mexican inspired taste. Don’t let the Chiptle name fool you, this isn’t spicy at all. It’s more earthy from the black beans. We like crushing it up and using it as a protein in tacos.

The flavors of both versions can become one-note so they benefit from a sauce. We like mayonnaise, garlic aioli, or even sriracha. Keeping with the Mexican taste, the black bean patties are excellent with guacamole on top.
