Contemporary Interiors in a Historic English House

Restoring a historic home and decorating it with contemporary furniture is a careful process if you want to preserve the property’s historic feeling. The owners of this English house, with its vernacular Lancashire-stone façade, managed to find the perfect balance between contemporary design and the home’s historic atmosphere.

The house was built in the 18th century, and during the extensive restoration of the building, the owners respected the sense of the original building, the minimalistic design they added to the home’s interiors put the spotlight on the beautiful historic bones of the old house.

The entire home is decorated in a light color palette, pairing it with natural materials, and light earth shades in the textiles. If you want to restore an old house an add a contemporary interior, than this is the house you should look at.

The room has a calm atmosphere thanks to the use of natural materials such as lime plaster, polished concrete, and bleached timber.

They decorated this room using original construction techniques; the walls were hand-finished, and the open fireplace was reinstated.

Next to the dining room is a living room decorated in the same color palette as the room next door. The room has original stone mullion windows overlooking the road and the surrounding landscape. A Contura wood burner was added to warm the room in cooler months and the original, chamfered oak beams are painted in Farrow and Ball‘s ‘Wimbourne White’.
