What are the best Brahms pieces to play?

🧑‍🏫Question/Help (Intermed./Advanced)

Brahms is probably my favourite composer for the piano. So far I have learned the Ballde Opus 10 No. 4, the Rhapsodie Opus 79 No. 2, and the Intermezzo No. 2. I will continue to work on them of course. His pieces are just sublime to play. I was wondering if there were any others that are particularly essential ans would enhance my repertoire. I'd like something quite challenging. Thank you very much.

Op 76 no 1 is beautiful and has some challenging parts particularly in the second half.

The other op. 79 Rhapsody, in B minor (79/1) is terrific; it will challenge you more than 79/2.

Also the last two pieces in op. 118, 5 (Romance in F) and 6 (Intermezzo in E-flat minor), making a nice contrast in moods, the Romance gentle and calm, the Intermezzo full of gloom and darkness.

Waltz 15 is a favorite

I would definitely recommend checking out the rest of op 10 and 118. 3 and 5 from 118 are my favorites from that set. For op 10, 2 is probably my overall favorite, but 1 is totally epic for how short it is and the end is quite tricky with the legato melody and staccato accompaniment.

Andante from the third sonata. Highly recommend, the climax is a thrill to play
