This is a full-length, superb quality, remastered episode of PBS' Austin City Limits from 1984 which includes the musical portions of the show that were never broadcast. The setting is intimate with an appreciative Texas audience enjoying the magnificent talents of 2 of their native sons - Billy Joe Shaver and son Eddy. Eddy, who was 22 at the time, astounds the viewer/listener with a mastery of the electric guitar at such an early age. His father Billy Joe sings every song (which he authored) and strums an acoustic guitar. Two sidemen accompany, but don't overpower on drums and electric bass. Each and Every song is a Winner and many will sound familiar because so many other artists have recorded Shaver compositions. Even songs which are new to the listener will become familiar favorites after only a few times. The camera work is professional, the musicianship is faultless, the melodies easy to embrace, and the lyrics are born from the real-life experiences of Billy Joe Shaver. If you are already a Shaver fan, this is at least as good as his best studio album with Eddy. If you are just discovering who the man is, this DVD Will make you a disciple. And if the music you normally listen to is missing something, this is the cure. You don't have to be a country music fan to appreciate the artistry of this performance - it truly exceeds the domain of typical country music.
