Tony Pasqual is an Italian immigrant who works as a hairdresser on East Side, New York. He is very patriotic and his biggest day is when he gets US citizenship. That same day, however, Bob Richards robs Tony of his last five dollars, but instead of reporting Bob to the police officer, Tony takes Bob to his house and feeds him, his sister Grace Chester and her son Dickie. After Tony learns that Bob is a decorated World War I veteran, Tony is quite cynical about the government he loves so much.
