Mel Gibson's Flight Risk Starring Mark Wahlberg Lands October Release, Gerard Butler's Den of Thieves Sequel Set for 2025

The Killer's Game also has a release date.

Lionsgate has announced release dates for Mel Gibson's Flight Risk starring Mark Wahlberg, Gerard Butler's Den of Thieves sequel, and the Dave Bautista-led action-comedy The Killer's Game.

As reported by Variety, The Killer's Game is the first newly dated title appearing on Lionsgate's theatrical release calendar for September 13, 2024, followed by Flight Risk on October 18, 2024. Fans have a little longer to wait for Den of Thieves: Pantera, the sequel to the 2018 heist feature, as it is dated January 10, 2025.

The Killer's Game, based on Jay R. Bonansinga's book of the same name and directed by JJ Perry from a screenplay by Rand Ravich and James Coyne, sees Bautista star as Joe Flood, a skilled assassin who puts a hit out on himself after struggling to come to terms with the fact he has been diagnosed with a terminal illness.

Things get complicated, however, when his former girlfriend gets caught up in the chaos and becomes a target of the contract killings, which means Flood must battle a legion of assassin colleagues. The star-studded ensemble includes Sofia Boutella, Terry Crews, Scott Adkins, Pom Klementief, and Ben Kingsley.

Flight Risk sees Gibson return to the director's chair for the first time since 2016's Hacksaw Ridge and reunites him with Wahlberg, whom he worked with on Father Stu and Daddy's Home 2. This time, Wahlberg takes to the skies to pilot a plane carrying a federal agent and a fugitive out of a remote area.

Den of Thieves: Pantera, meanwhile, is coming out early next year. The story will pick up after the events of the 2018 film, with Butler reprising his role as Big Nick O'Brien and O'Shea Jackson Jr. returning as Donnie Wilson, making moves in Europe ahead of a heist of the world's largest diamond exchange.

Christian Gudegast, the director of the first Den of Thieves, returned to write and direct the sequel despite mixed reviews for his original movie. IGN called the film "mediocre," noting that it is "a long, good-looking journey with a few points of interest along the way, but the destination is sadly unsatisfying."

The Killer's Game and Flight Risk join several other titles to be excited about this year, while Den of Thieves: Pantera gives cinema-goers something to set their sights on in 2025.
