Harborfields High School has introduced a pivotal change in my life as grow up to be an individual who strives for the greatest of goals and accomplishments. Growing up during the COVID pandemic was challenging at first, but my experience would eventually transform into one of great embrace from faculty staff, teachers, and students. Endeavoring into a variety of different activities with sports, extracurriculars, and weekly school events made Harborfields not just an educational center for learning, but a lifestyle to explore the different opportunities it had to offer during my 4 years here. Harborfields will be the monumental site of great memories and learning experiences that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
Teachers range from supportive and great dedication to their students to ignorant and unwilling to help students at all. There was not much transparent planning or aid available for college preparation, leaving me confused and extremely stressed out throughout the college application process. My guidance counselor is extremely sweet and helpful when I ask for specific advice, but not much progress is made unless I am the one to reach out to her. The food is decent as best, but there are not many options. School spirit is high, but the diversity of extracurricular activities and clubs is mediocre. The school often smells and the bathrooms are rarely clean. Mental health and personal circumstances are often not taken seriously or into consideration by administration, leaving students to fend for themselves.
Joseph started his first year at Harborfields HS learning remotely with the rest of the class of 2024. Even though he wasn’t able to experience the crowed hallways, meeting friends at their lockers and participating in any sporting events or clubs, the school did an exceptional job having the class acclimate to the homeschool process. He learned how to manage his free time and to take accountability to signing in to classes remotely timely and accurately. When the class was able to return to in school learning, the teachers and staff made everyone feel safe and made the transition smooth. The next 3 years, went according to the plan with no issues. Class schedules were easily prepared, teachers were always accommodating when necessary and all his coaches have been nothing but professional and supportive. Weekly updates from the school were definitely beneficial and appreciated. Harborfields HS is an exceptional learning institution.
