Better than National Trust and more to see.
The best family owned castle in South England. We booked the all inclusive ticket (3 adults). Whilst entry fee at £27 seems expensive you can spend at least 4 hours exploring castle rooms and superb gardens. Staff on site very helpful and knowledgeable. Access to some of the castle (eg The Keep) will need you to be mobile. Stairs are steep and narrow in some places. If you get to the top of The Keep views are superb of Arundel and beyond. Well worth a visit. Don’t forget the gardens!

An amazing Castle, beautiful gardens and friendly staff.
What an amazing Castle this is. Every member of staff was friendly, knowledgeable and keen to make sure we had a lovely day. The gardens were beautiful, especially as it was tulip time. There were quite a few steps to the Keep but the views were well worth the climb. The whole experience was well worth a long overdue visit.

    Worth every penny
Unfortunately, I only had limited time for my visit to the gardens at Arundel Castle due to imminent rain showers & only having parking for 1 hour, but I will try & return soon. It cost £14 to visit the gardens, without going inside the castle. There were tulips of different types & colours all over the gardens & it was a magnificent display. My favourite part was in a walled garden. There were little corners with interesting displays, including a scarecrow family, stunning water features & quiet spaces with benches, all adorned with colourful displays of flowers, predominantly tulips. At the foot of the castle are grassy banks filled with red tulips, reminding me of the Tower of London when they have poppies on display. I was reluctant to leave this little corner of Paradise; it is so good for the soul, especially in the dreary weather we are still experiencing.

An amazing day out. The gardens are special.
We went on a dull April day. What a lovely surprise we had with the whole visit. The tulips were out, the gardens were amazing. The castle is smaller than you think. The tour guides are as intrusive or extrusive as you wish and extremely knowledgable. The visit to the keep is challenging since his has 132 steep steps. The cafe serves good snack type food. The three hours we spend there just flew. Highly recommended.

    Informative, helpful staff!
We spent about 5 hours here both in the house and gardens. There are plenty of staff members dotted around both inside and outside who we found to be very helpful and knowledgeable, answering questions from anyone who asked. The gardens and the house seem very well looked after and we really enjoyed our time. It was worth booking online beforehand as the queue to buy tickets was quite long.

    A Stunning Display of Tulips
We went, specifically for the Tulip Festival, and we were not disappointed. From walking into the grounds, you start to see beautiful tulip displays, starting with the red tulips by the castle. By the chapel there are stunning white tulips. which are so unusual. As you move into the garden, you see the large pots of colourful tulips everywhere. The fountains are really impressive, against the large pots of tulips. I thoroughly recommend this garden.

    Don't miss this experience!
We entered the castle at 2 pm and left at closing time 3 hours later. We found this timing just right as we feel we saw all we could, and we'd reached castle saturation by the end. The historic keep was worth all of the stairs, even the narrow, spiral ones. The rest of the tour simply involves following the course laid out by direction markers and roped off areas. The history of the castle is fascinating, and the fact that it is currently lived in by the Duke of Norfolk's family gives it an appealing, homely feel. The displays of armoury furnishings, artworks, etcetera are fabulous, and it really doesn't matter that many have come from a variety of sources. It is definitely worth paying for the entrance tickets that give access to the bedrooms as these are quite fascinating. Our favourite room was the magnificent Library with its 10,000 volumes and teak carvings. A great way to spend several hours.

excellent day out with mobility assistance
i was visiting with a lightweight mobility scooter. they called the buggy to take me up to the gardens and then picked me up again to take to to the castle entrance. there are guides on every area of the castle who give directions and can answer questions on the rooms you are visiting. the staff were superb and were so helpful and cheerful. i was able to go by a old tiny lift to the first floor so i could see other areas. the bedrooms are on the upper floors. we were taken by buggy back to the exit. they have a nice restaurant and good toilet facilities. it’s the first time i had been able to visit a castle since needing mobility aids and it was made as easy as it could be by the staff and facilities. well done Arundel castle staff.

    Castle and wonderful gardens
My wife and I had a wonderful tour of the castle and garden. There are so many rooms and things to see it probably needs a number of visits to appreciate everything. The gardens are magnificent with wonderful flowers beds and greenhouses. We particularly liked the little kiosk for ice cream or snacks in the garden. The adjacent church was very interesting too. Our ticket price was £59.50 for the two of us and included the bedrooms and garden as well as the castle. This was the Gift Aid price so that tax can be reclaimed. This also gives 20% discount when buying food in the restaurant or gifts in the shop. This enabled us each to have a vegetable lasagna and salad each plus cappuccino coffees for £13.40 in the very well laid out restaurant - a bargain lunch. 4 hours parking for £3.50 in the adjacent car park to the castle seemed like a bargain price too. A memorable afternoon.

    Fabulous experience all round.
We visited Arundel Castle on a Sunny Sunday, as we journeyed to the New Forest. Being visitors from overseas, we wondered if we would be able to find it, but the Castle dominates the town and is easy to find, as is the car parking opposite. We paid for out tickets and the girl on the window, noticing I had a hiking stick with me ( I have a dicey ankle and the stick helps me walking up and down stairs and over rough ground) , asked if we would like to use the buggy to get us up to the Castle Gardens. We took her up on the offer and it saved us a long uphill walk in 30C heat. We were advised to just talk to one of the assistants around the castle grounds if we needed it and they would ring for it to come and get us. We looked around the Castle Gardens and the church nearby, then started making our way down to the castle itself, enjoying the shade of the many trees around the place. When we arrived at the Castle we were directed to the lift so I wouldn’t have to climb the stairs and then to another lift to take us up to the open rooms of the castle. (The assistance offered to me was absolutely first rate and I congratulate the staff on being aware of the needs of others). The rooms in the castle are spectacular- the banquet hall, chapel and dining rooms in particular are huge rooms, each with their own special feel - sometimes reverent and understated and at other times opulent. One room off the dining room is called the Canaletto room as there are three original paintings by Canaletto hanging on the walls. There were beautiful stained glass windows throughout, as well as quiet little nooks where one could see previous residents sitting and reflecting on warm days. There is a little cafe and a restaurant at the Castle along with a gift shop. You could also (for an extra fee) opt to climb the keep for spectacular views over the town. This was one of the best castles we have been through on our trip here and would recommend it to all visitors.

The tulip fest was excellent and we had such a good time! We chatted to the gardener in charge of the vegetable area and got a really good insight into the working kitchen garden and the way they garden without chemicals. Lots of handy hints for being more sustainable, and some lovely anecdotes associated with this working stately home. Good to have the details of the varieties of tulip specific to the places in which they are planted. Other visitors were also very friendly and the whole atmosphere was one of ambience and mutual understanding.

This Festival is a must. We could not believe that this number of variations of tulips existed. It was a sight to behold. The gardens are so well kept and cover a large area. The majority of tulips are within the walled gardens and are magnificent. We thought that the visit was good value for money. We did not go into the castle but enjoyed a coffee in the restaurant. Although the gardens are some way from the entrance transport is available for the less mobile. A most enjoyable day.

This is a 'must see' Castle. It is absolutely superb and every view is perfect for photographs. Definitely worth paying for a Gold Plus Entry as the bedrooms are an absolute delight. Having arrived at the beginning of the Tulip Festival we were treated to a fabulous display with over 60,000 bulbs all bursting into life. We literally spent nearly a whole day just walking round the castle and grounds as we could not get enough of the sheer power and beauty of the construction

The castle is great, fascinating to look around and lots to see. Our 7 and 9 year olds loved it. The grounds are also beautiful and a must. It was the tulip festival when we were there and they were definitely something to see.

The biggest let down and something to avoid is the castle restaurant. Terrible service and food. Once ordering we had a very long wait in a freezing restaurant. The staff were unhelpful and ignored all the dirty plates and cups on tables and in the end we cleared our table ourselves to the floor. We were there for over an hour (because of the wait) and it still hadn't been moved. We had 4 meal's, 2 of which came out with food missing which we had to then ask for and 3 of the 4 meals were completely cold. My daughter had baked beans with hers and I think they went straight from tin to plate and skipped the heating process. The very uninterested staff heated up 2 of the meals and replaced the other, a cold jacket potato with a slightly warm jacket that was so shrivelled it looked like it had been there for a week. The food was disgusting, we all left hungry, and the staff couldn't care less.

Definitely visit the castle but do not waste your money on the food.

We looked at going to the castle the day before, but decided against it as we had the pushchair with us and it was the afternoon on arrival.
The next day we arrived bright and early with the child back carrier instead of the chair. We were happier to use this around the castle than leave the pushchair and carry the little one. It was very tight in places and low as I am short and the low ceilings were close on my daughters head.
Because of the children we could not hang around in one place for long, but they enjoyed going around.
The gardens were nice. This was during the tulip festival which had some gorgeous displays.
A lovely day out.

Our visit coincided with the tulip festival here and this was excellent, as were all the gardens. They were well tended and a pleasure to walk round. The castle was very good too, well organised and with friendly, knowledgeable staff. The children particularly enjoyed going up the keep.

We have just spent a great time visiting Arundel Castle. We made the trip especially to see the tulip festival. The flower display was spectacular and a later visit to the Castle was very informative.

Mid morning we stopped in the gardens for a coffee only to be told they had run out, the time was 11am...
We then stopped for lunch at 1.00 at the Castle restaurant. The queue was out of the door maybe 50 people so we went to the coffee shop. We were greeted by a queue of 10 people. There was one poor girl run ragged on the till. She was making drinks, serving food and on the till. There was dirty cups and plates piling up but no one else to be seen. 25 minutes later I placed my order only to be told they had run out of sandwiches. So, two coffees, two pieces of cake and crisps came to £16, that's taking the Mickey.

It's not about the food or I would have gone to McDonald's (We did later) its the whole experiance. The gift shop was full of rubbish with more eye watering prices.

A poor elderly gentleman fell off his stool in the restairant and no one from the Castle went to his aid. The girl behind the till stopped breifly to watch but then carried on.

Would I recommend a visit? Yes, but forget the refreshments and don't injure yourself.

Been wanting to visit so managed to combine it when the tulip festival is on. We chose the gold plus ticket which allows access everywhere, it is quite expensive but I booked online ( small saving) and it comes with a voucher to use in cafe/ restaurant. Much more to see than other castles I’ve been to, well maintained. The tulip festival was ok, made the gardens pretty this time of year, but I’m assuming later in the year the gardens have other floral displays. There are plenty of facilities and a laidback attitude. The cafe/ restaurant staff quite slow but the quality of food was good.
