    I was hoping to add screenshots which would tell the story.
    "Tethering and Hotspot" settings screen blank.

    Current software ABP662, Can download ABT855, update starts, reboots, gives broken robot screen "whoops this is embarrasing"
    Tried and failed 3 times...

    Several apps I require, throw error "must update google play services to run this app"...

    -edit- "System Apps" tab in Update app shows "Could not connect to server" (retry)

    Update -
    Manually upgraded Google Play services via apkmirror: first to 14.8.48, which I believe was the last targeted to android 7.1 - the requests to update play services disappeared but one app still throwing "unable to connect"
    So I then to installed 24.7.18, which I believe is the latest available version. (App still can't connect, it Seems to be a common clash between app and play services)

    Will attempt ABT855 again with 24.7.18 installed

    Have you checked the minimum android requirement for the app itself? Maybe it requires a minimum of android 8 or higher?
