Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, and Aisha Tyler. Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 was officially renewed in January and is set to premiere in June.

Although the video is just over a minute long, it is packed with incident as a killer strikes, prompting the BAU to assume they are an unsub (unknown subject) that may have been trained by the government. As the bodies pile up and the team begins to get desperate, they turn to captive serial killer Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) for assistance.

This major expansion on the original Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 trailer offers the closest look yet at how the story of the new episodes is going to unfold. It seems that the show will be centering once more around the character of Elias, who recurring star Zach Gilford has been playing on every episode of the show since season 1 of the continuation premiered on Paramount+. This seems to indicate an overall interest in keeping the overarching storylines of the Evolution branch of the show consistent with one another.

Zach Gilford is likely best known for playing Matt Saracen on Friday Night Lights and Shane in The Purge: Anarchy.

Since he joined the Criminal Minds cast, Elias Voit has become one of the BAU's greatest enemies. Season 1 followed a series of cases where it became clear that they were linked by a group of serial killers who were controlled by a leader known as Sicarius, who turned out to be Elias. Over the course of ten episodes, the team closed in on Elias, eventually capturing him in the finale, though not without great difficulty.

Now, Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 is leaning in even more on the central villain. While he is now in the BAU's custody, his usefulness in the current case still makes him a very dangerous opponent. He is now occupying a similar place in the narrative that Hannibal Lecter did in the iconic classic The Silence of the Lambs, and his insidious influence could very well threaten to tear apart the team from the inside.

Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2 premieres on Paramount+ on June 6.
