Adding to our wonderful memories of Celtic title wins at Rugby Park

Great memories of Celtic winning the league at Rugby Park, let’s hope tonight creates another one…

Tonight we can clinch the title at Rugby Park, a venue where we have had many good memories especially when it comes to clinching league titles this century.

18 April 2004, Kilmarnock v Celtic – Stilian Petrov starts the Celtic title party by scoring the only goal of the game much to the delight of team mate Henrik Larsson.

Back in 2004 a goal by Stan Petrov clinched the title for Martin O’Neill’s legendary side. Then three years later an unforgettable last gasp free kick by Shunsuke Nakamura (who else) clinched the title for Gordon Strachan’s side.

In 2012 Neil Lennon’s side won the first of nine league titles in a row in a thumping 6-0 win over Kilmarnock in Ayrshire. On a day we were treated to a superb display of football played in front of mostly Celtic fans who took over the stadium, and the atmosphere was a joy to behold.

In 2019 we also can claim to have clinched the title at Rugby Park, although not officially. When a last gasp Scott Brown goal seen us win a vital three points with a game still known as ‘when Scott brown won the league at Rugby park’ Broony was of course famously sent off by a raging Bobby Madden after picking up a second yellow for his celebrations.

So it’s a ground that holds four great title winning memories for the Celtic support. Let’s hope tonight is another one of those so that we don’t have to wait until Saturday.

Last night we thought when Dundee took a 2-0 lead that the league would have been won without Celtic playing and that’s the least best way of getting it over the line. Had Dundee not conceded on the stroke of half-time it probably would have happened.

As it turned out it ended up 5-2 to theRangers who therefore cut our goal difference advantage from six to three. So. we need to get this done this evening. And if you are watching on TV rather than being one of the lucky supporters with a ticket, then don’t forget that Celtic FC Women are playing their penultimate league match of the season away to Hearts and that one kicks off at 6pm and is live on BBC Alba.

Elena Sadiku’s side needs to win this evening then beat Hibs at Celtic Park on Sunday afternoon to secure a first ever women’s league title for Celtic Football Club. Well worth watching this evening ahead of the game at Rugby Park on Sky Sports.

All going well Celtic will have not one but two title wins to celebrate this weekend and Celtic will be the first club to win both the men and women titles in the same season!

An ordinary everyday Celtic supporters hailing and still residing in Govan in the shadows of the enemy. I’m a season ticket holder. I Witnessed my first Celtic game in 1988 and have attended when I can ever since. Growing up in the 90s I witnessed Celtic at their lowest, and now appreciate the historic success we enjoy today. I enjoy writing about this wonderful football club and hopefully will continue to do so. I’ve always been a keen writer and initially started this a hobby. My ambition is to one day become as good an author as my fellow Celtic Star colleagues.
