‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ Cast Was to Perform Live at 2023 Lollapalooza Before Strike

The cast of Daisy Jones & The Six were set to take the stage once again according to series star Suki Waterhouse.

Waterhouse shared in a YouTube vlog on Thursday from the 2023 Lollapalooza festival that she along with the cast, which also included Sam Claflin, Riley Keough, Josh Whitehouse, Sebastian Chacon and Will Harrison, were supposed to perform at the Chicago-based music festival last summer. 

“That whole thing was planned, we got people visas, like, it was an operation. And then the SAG strike happened, so we all decided that we should not perform at Lollapalooza,” the actress and singer recalled. Amid the strike, guidelines stated that the union’s affected members would be prohibited from all principal on-camera work — including acting, singing, dancing and stunts — on top of off-camera work, such as voice-acting and narration. All promotional activity such as interviews, award shows and podcasts were also not allowed by union members at the time.

“But I am looking out my window today, just sad that they’re not here,” Waterhouse said.

Following the Amazon Prime series’ finale, fans had adamantly expressed hopes for the cast to perform the band’s songs in real life.

A reunion was teased by Whitehouse on social media when he shared videos of the cast seemingly in rehearsals, but the videos have since been deleted. “Just arrived at a rehearsal studio to have a band practice with Daisy Jones & The Six,” he said in the video. “But we already finished the TV show. So why would we be doing that?”

Keough also reflected on the performance that could’ve been in a social media post ahead of the Emmys.

“In honor of the Emmys, here’s a video of the last time Sammy, the band and I rehearsed together. We were rehearsing to perform live for our lovely Daisy fans and it sadly never happened because of the strike,” Keough wrote alongside a video of her and the castmates performing “Look at Us Now (Honeycomb).” Keough hadn’t shared where and when the cast was expected to perform.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the series finale, showrunners Scott Neustadter and Will Graham teased that they too were hopeful the stars would perform live.

“I mean, I sure hope so. I would buy a ticket. We made them do a show for us before we started filming and we know they can do it. They picked the set list, they picked the order, they didn’t have any accompaniment, they had to play all the instruments themselves and do all the singing. So we know that they could pull it off and we know it’s a spectacular show,” Neustadter told THR.

“We would love it and I think the cast would love it, so we’ll just have to see what we can make happen,” Graham said.

Based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Daisy Jones & The Six chronicles the rise and fall of a renowned rock band in the 1970s fronted by Daisy Jones (Keough) and Billy Dunne (Claflin). Despite achieving superstardom, the band unexpectedly breaks up, only deciding to reveal what caused them to implode decades later.

The series featured 24 original songs written and produced by Grammy-nominated producer Blake Mills and recorded by the cast. Mills collaborated with Phoebe Bridgers, Marcus Mumford, Jackson Browne, Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith and others to create the songs.

The Aurora album was released by Atlantic Records during the rollout of the series. The album ranked No. 1 on the Billboard Soundtracks chart and opened at No. 4 on both Americana/Folk Albums and Vinyl Albums and No. 10 on Top Album Sales, according to Billboard. Daisy Jones & The Six also marked the first act who stemmed from a scripted series to hit No. 1 on Emerging Artists.
