Summary

  • Eun-ji should hopefully be alive in All of Us Are Dead season 2.
  • Killing Eun-ji offscreen would be a mistake.
  • Eun-ji can be the show's next major villain now that characters like Dr. Lee Byeong-chan and Gwi-nam have died.

All of Us Are Dead killed off a lot of important characters, but one name whose fate was left ambiguous should hopefully still be alive in season 2. From the countless students turned into zombies during the apocalypse to Cheong-san's sacrifice, All of Us Are Dead’s cast grew smaller with each episode. The hit Netflix K-drama, which premiered in January 2022 and was renewed for season 2 in June of that same year, was very violent and had no problem killing both heroes and villains. All of Us Are Dead season 2’s story and release date have yet to be revealed.

There are plenty of reasons to be excited for All of Us Are Dead season 2, including the chance to revisit fan-favorite characters like On-jo, Su-hyeok, and Nam-ra. Whether Cheong-san actually died in season 1’s finale is unclear, but it’s unlikely that he will not return. Assuming Cheong-san survived and will show up in All of Us Are Dead season 2, there is another character who is hopefully not dead and will return in the next season as well – Eun-ji.

Eun-ji Should Be Alive In All Of Us Are Dead Season 2

Killing Eun-ji offscreen would be a mistake

Eun-ji covered in blood in All of Us Are Dead

All of Us Are Dead season 1’s ending left Eun-ji’s fate ambiguous. The character was last seen being experimented on by the military inside the quarantine zone, after which she was never shown or referred to again. The final episode of All of Us Are Dead included a shot from Eun-ji’s holding cell, but it was empty. Therefore, either Eun-ji was killed offscreen, or she was moved to another facility. Another option is that she escaped the lab, although this would have led to some sort of reaction from the soldiers.

Regardless, Eun-ji should still be alive in All of Us Are Dead season 2. Considering how much time season 1 spent developing the character, having her be killed offscreen would be extremely disappointing. Eun-ji may not have interacted a lot with the main All of Us Are Dead characters, but she was still a very important part of the show. From the storyline about the harassment she was suffering to her transformation into a hambie, Eun-ji had one of the most intense character arcs in the show. Not having her in season 2 would be a wasted opportunity.

Why All Of Us Are Dead Didn’t Show What Happened To Eun-ji

All of Us Are Dead could be setting up Eun-ji’s return

Considering how All of Us Are Dead had no problem living up to its name and killing off characters, it is strange that it did not show Eun-ji’s fate. The possibility that Eun-ji was indeed killed offscreen cannot be ruled out, as it would not be the first time a relatively important character was given a disappointing sendoff in an ensemble show. All of Us Are Dead had a lot of characters and storylines to handle, especially by the end of season 1, so it would not be surprising if Eun-ji was simply dealt with offscreen.

All of Us Are Dead is based on a webtoon called Now at Our School by Joo Dong-geun.

Showing Eun-ji’s holding cell empty may also have been a more subtle way of telling viewers that she had been killed by the soldiers. All of Us Are Dead’s final episodes had a couple of montages showing the aftermath of the apocalypse, of which Eun-ji’s empty cell scene was part. Lastly, Eun-ji’s fate might have been left ambiguous precisely because the character will return in season 2. Should that be the case, not showing what happened to Eun-ji in All of Us Are Dead was a setup for season 2.

What Role Eun-ji Could Have In All Of Us Are Dead Season 2

Eun-ji was a complicated character in the first season of All of Us Are Dead. On one hand, after going through everything she went through at the hands of Gwi-nam and his friends, Eun-ji had all the right to go on a revenge spree against those who did her wrong. On the other hand, becoming a hambie also had negative effects on the character. Eun-ji may be stronger now, but she is also more reckless and dangerous. Eun-ji does not control her powers like Nam-ra does, meaning she is a threat to those around her.

A lot of characters died in All of Us Are Dead, including important villains that could have played a much bigger role on the show in future seasons.

This became clear at the end of season 1 when Eun-ji attacked and killed Cheol-soo because she was hungry. This was when Eun-ji exposed herself as a hambie and became a test subject for the military, who by then was not aware of the existence of asymptomatic zombies. Eun-ji could be one of the main villains in All of Us Are Dead season 2, someone who was used as a lab rat and is now much angrier than she already was. With All of Us Are Dead now potentially focusing on the hambies, Eun-ji’s return would make even more sense.

If All of Us Are Dead season 2 is about Nam-ra leading and protecting other hambies who are living out in the open following the bombarding of Hyosan, having Eun-ji as the main villain would be quite interesting. There would be hambies on both sides of the story, which would certainly lead to some great fight scenes. All of Us Are Dead, like many other zombie shows, cannot limit itself to a story about humans trying to run away from the undead. Instead, the zombie K-drama can explore the nuances that come with the hambies.

Eun-ji’s Return Would Fix All Of Us Are Dead’s Villain Problem

All of Us Are Dead killed most of its villains

A lot of characters died in All of Us Are Dead, including important villains that could have played a much bigger role on the show in future seasons. For example, Dr. Lee Byeong-chan, the creator of the Jonas virus, turned into a zombie and died offscreen midway through the season. Lee Na-yeon, who did an outrageous thing at the beginning of the show but could have had a compelling redemption arc, was abruptly killed off after an encounter with Gwi-nam. Even Gwi-nam, who survived a lot of certain death situations, could’ve been a good villain to revisit in season 2.

All Of Us Are Dead Season 2’s Teased New Characters Mean Nam-ra Will Be Even More Important Now

All of Us Are Dead’s finale teased the arrival of new characters, and they will make Nam-ra even more important in season 2 of the zombie K-drama.

With all of those characters dead, All of Us Are Dead’s next season needs at least one recurring antagonist from season 1. This could be Eun-ji, as her fate was much more ambiguous than those of Dr. Lee or Na-yeon. All of Us Are Dead is expected to introduce new characters in season 2 now that it has covered all of the webtoon already. Still, All of Us Are Dead will hopefully revisit Eun-ji and continue her complicated character arc from season 1.
