TWO inspiring members of Carlow Ladies GAA were on hand to present the girls’ team at Gaelscoil Eoghain Uí Thuairisc with their well-earned Cumann na mBunscol medals recently.

Carlow ladies captain Ruth Bermingham and teammate Cliodhna Ní Shea, both past pupils of the Gaelscoil, presented the girls with their medals at the school recently. The Carlow ladies also brought along their 2024 Division 4 Cup to show and inspire the players of the future.

The Gaelscoil won the division 1 final in thrilling fashion, beating a tough and talented Bennekerry NS side by just a single point in a nail-biting encounter. The great win for the Gaelscoil was their first in eight years and was much celebrated in the school.

The panel was comprised of pupils from sixth and fifth class, who hail from a number of local GAA clubs, including Éire Óg, O’Hanrahan’s, The Fighting Cocks and Old Leighlin. The team is coached by Noirín Uí Rinn and Nicola Timmons, who both give a huge amount of time and encouragement to the team.

Ruth and Cliodhna were welcomed with a guard of honour and then a rousing rendition of The Sunday Game theme tune by the school’s talented musicians. The teams then watched a video compilation of all their terrific moments and highlights from the season, culminating in winning the Cumann na mBunscol Cup, accepted by their captain Emily Carpenter.

Teacher and team coach Noirín Uí Rinn welcomed Ruth and Cliodhna to the school and congratulated them and the Carlow ladies on their huge success this year. Cliodhna also thanked the school for the invitation and encouraged the girls to keep up their love of sport.

The girls’ camogie team at the Gaelscoil have also reached the Cumann na mBunscol final this year, which will be played in the coming weeks, with hopes high that they can do the double! However, some serious opposition stands in their way, as they are up against a familiar and determined Bennekerry NS.
