Tokyo a semi love trip report

Hello everyone, it’s been a few days since I’ve posted. a lot has happened in between that time and unfortunately, I had no mood to say or share my experiences here in Tokyo not that things have settled and I was lifted up by my family yesterday I can share

For those wondering as I’m sure some people are I have been working on a project in Hawaii for three years and it was not renewed for the fourth so it was a very devastating hit to us all and was not something I was looking forward to waking up on the very second day, my first morning here in Tokyo I spent that morning as you will see in my day today report, and then I gave myself that day to do all of that and the following days to look for the light so here is my report part live part already done

I’ll be in Tokyo for one full week.

Friday : April 26,2024

Day 1

I arrived to blissfully happy off of my Shinkansen train ride from the Nagoya. I met up with a good dear friend that I haven’t seen since 2017 who now lives in Nagoya or has been for the past 20 something years so we had lunch at the train station and then I boarded my Shinkansen bound for Tokyo.

Surprisingly, the train was really packed, well actually maybe not surprisingly as the next day is golden week.

I arrived at Tokyo station and followed the very well described directions everywhere with how to get to my next train. I am staying in the Hibiya district. And I got off at the.Shimbashi station. From there, my hotel was a less than five minute walk.

The area was pretty busy even though it was very gray outside. This area seems to be a mix of business and somewhat pleasure. Well actually there is definitely a pleasure Street. lol.

I’m staying at the Hibiya BLOSSOM hotel. I actually arrived. Perfect timing for check-in. The lobby is located on the 18th floor. And once the elevators opened up, you have a commanding view of Tokyo tower and the surrounding area and it is an absolutely stunning view. The lobby is so pretty and airy , and everyone who works there so pleasant. There are lots of international gas at this hotel and I’m not sure if I even saw one Japanese person that’s a first for me

My room is on the 24th floor. It’s very basic room, but it is absolutely positively perfectly divine. it’s beautifully decorated in a simplistic yet modern Japanese twist and it holds itself all the luxuries one needs to have a very comfortable stay the best part is another command of a different part of the city to which I think I am somewhat looking at the back of the imperial Palace so so far I am really really happy being here to add the cherry on a lovely cake next to my room are three washer dryer machines hallelujah! so first up on my adventure here in Tokyo, laundry!!!!

I set out two loads and decided to go take a walk for about an hour

Ginza is less than an eight minute walk away. I haven’t seen Ginza since 2000. When I visited with my friend and we took her there so she could see what Ginza looks like. so flashy yet so elegant. Filled with all the Designer stores one could dream of. The beautiful thing about some of these stores are that they are pieces of art themselves.

Like the Hermes store front. And OMG the last remaining Barney’s Ny I almost cried. How I miss Barney’s

I didn’t want to stay here too long because my laundry was about to be done and I don’t want to be that person who just leaves her stuff in there

Laundry done and put away I completely settled in, took a shower and watched as the night sky was coming to life. Tonight I’m meeting a very good and old dear friend who I’ve worked with for over 10 years who lives in Tokyo with his partner they are making dinner for me at their house

It’s fantastic to be so close to the train station yet far enough not to be bothered by all the drama that sometimes comes along with it, but with this case I was able to hop on the train the yamanote line and got off at akebonobashi very easily.

My friends live in a bougie area and their penthouse condo makes one just dream of what living the good life in Tokyo really is like they prepare an amazing feast of miso soup, osushi, and different types of tempura. it was absolutely filling and we washed it all down with lots of wine

And that really ended my night. I was still so tired from traveling and putting things away and What not you know how it is sometimes on a travel day Ends day1

Well we all have different cultures that need to be respected whether we like it or not. Here being in silence is respected as is waiting patiently in line and finishing your food and drink at the place you purchased it so you can throw the rubbish away and you don’t tip. One takes their shoes off in the house. ( we practice this in hawaii too. In fact it’s mandatory in hawaii. )

While when you visit the USA .. tipping is expected , talking freely is encouraged and actually part of our constitution but of course one’s upbringing would help one to know when speaking and at what volume is appropriate or not.

Sadly not everyone educated themselves before traveling so they are clueless that they are committing huge cultural infesction

I have been totally embarrassed twice by Americans - both times its was totally innocent on their part. Once on a bus in Arizona the bus driver was so amazed I was a foreigner he announced it to the whole bus. And once I asked a random tourist in Mexico if he knew where a travellers cheque exchange was (it was a long time ago ) and it turned out he was from Texas and again huge loud voice telling everyone in his group it was amazing that this girl from NZ was travelling solo in Mexico LOL. I am very curious to observe quiet Americans in Japan!

Hi, Angelina, glad you are having a good time around the country. I giggled at your report at Ise.... and cried with you in Tokyo. I know that your mother is smiling. And traveling with you. Be sure to get two glasses of sake, beer and wine. Sounds like she could use a drink, too!

When one door closes, another one opens. As the magnet on my refrigerator says, "Dream big., work hard., smile always... and good things will happen." Cheering for you......

Enjoy the rest of your trip. Looking forward to more reports. And DO come back again!

I'm sorry to hear about your project Angelina - I love your trip updates, I've been reading them with my morning coffee :)

My kids still enjoy recounting what happened with a middle aged American male couple on our train from Sapporo to Tomamu - they honestly seemed lovely, but were giving each other a running commentary about whatever random thought popped in their heads. Before long, the guard very sternly told them off.

Thank you, everyone you’ve been so kind with your words. It’s definitely been an emotional journey cannot deny that one that I would never give up. I’m so grateful for the opportunity that I could one travel here to stay for almost one month and you have such wonderful memories of my mom and family and create new ones so grateful. On another note when it comes to tourism and tourist, it’s quite funny because I remember when I used to travel as a younger person I would never tell anyone that I’m from the USA, but I am from the kingdom of Hawaii. Maybe I should’ve said I was from the USA because I was always being so considerate and kind that maybe I could’ve changed someone’s mind about American tourist

Many American tourists are very knowledgeable and aware of their surroundings and the country that they are extremely respectful and I’m very proud of them. They used to rank kind of high on the obnoxious list, especially in Europe, but now I feel with the Internet being the way it is that Americans seem to be more respectful, but they are also very joyous people or happy to be in someplace new and are just so excited experiencing new things that they just are Boisterous about it

I stopped for coffee real quick and Shabuya right by the Shibuya Crossing area and I saw the switching places so I couldn’t help myself and just popped in real quick ¥2000 and, ¥38,000 out so not too bad to do a little shopping while here and Shibuya although I must’ve made them a little confused as where to go. There’s so much to see OK Aloha.

The tourists that were behaving badly while we were here were actually from 2 Asian countries (not Japan) that I would not name. In our Shinkansen trips, they would rush and take the baggage area we have reserved for our seats. In Kyoto, they wouldn’t even wait for us to get off the bus and tram before boarding. In the airport, they would cut the line. In NYC everyone is rushing but I have not observed this type of bad behavior. I am not generalizing but just posting our experience here. It was a bit unexpected.

I think I know exactly the two you are referring to so funny. I too have been referring to at least one of them, but I don’t want to name them also. lol

The rest of the day was fantastic. I shopped around Shibuya didn’t buy anything. Oh excuse me I did I went to. Cosme Went nuts on Makeup and skin care.

I did go to Pachinko. I’m not sure if I mentioned that earlier at Shibuya Crossing and I put in ¥2000 and came out with 38,000 so yay.Me hahahaha

My friends picked me up and took me to Zushi In Kamakura. We had a fabulous late lunch of sashimi and katsu fish And beer and we walked the beach and enjoyed the cloudy yet beautiful day and stumbled across the film festival happening. Afterwards, we stopped at this lovely place called Marlowe Had the most divine ice cream known to man it was so decadent and so worth it

Back in packing up my suitcase tomorrow I’m going to send it off to Kanazawa

Tomorrow is my last full day and night in Tokyo. I don’t really have much planned, but I think I’m going to walk through Hibiya Park and Imperial Palace area

My friends made early dinner reservations at Narisawa. It’s supposed to be an epic dining experience and I need to make sure that I am free from perfume scents.

So I’m gonna try to have a large breakfast in the morning and that’s it because it’s evidently a huge meal

My friend told me that they went once and there was an edible creation on the plate. You could eat everything that resembled the forest and they had piped in a speaker that was recording live from a forest somewhere far away and so you were actually hearing the real Forest as you eat Live So this is gonna be an experience

Oh my stars, I was starting to lose weight and not gaining it all back from all this duck and eating, but who cares I am so happy I can diet when I get home

Wearing off shoes is not special. It's common in Asian countries, and I know it is in Hawaii.

Angelina, I was actually getting a little worried about you since we hadn't heard from you in a few days! I've been following along and enjoying your trip reports. I'm sorry about your project's unexpected ending.

As an introvert, and from one of the (many) friendly states in the US, I'm kind of looking forward to not having to make chit chat with everyone everywhere I go, ha ha.

I am so sorry to hear about your project. Losing a job is devastating. Sounds like you can be a professional Pachinko player and make a good living, though.

I'm glad you had a wonderful family reunion and I'm sure it lifted your spirit.

I'm also glad to know you like the Hibiya Blossom as I often recommend this hotel.

About the certain group you talk about, I totally dislike them, too. Whenever I encounter them, they ruin my pleasure. I wish we could go back in time when they couldn't travel to Japan, lol.

Anyway, I hope you keep your spirit up and enjoy the rest of your trip.

Can't wait to hear all about Narisawa!
