It’s graduation season! Which means throngs of young adults venturing away from college campuses and into the world to start new careers.

But where is the best city to start a new job? A recent study from WalletHub found the best and worst U.S. cities to start a career in and three Florida cities made the “best” list’s top 10.

“Transitioning out of school and into the workforce can be a difficult and stressful process, but certain cities make things a lot easier than others,” WalletHub Analyst Cassandra Happe said in the study.

“The best cities for starting a career not only have a lot of job opportunities but also provide substantial income growth potential and satisfying work conditions.”

Here’s where Florida cities ranked on WalletHub’s list of the best places in the country to start a career and why.

Atlanta, Georgia ranked as the best city to start a new career in 2024 and Orlando placed close behind in second.

Tampa and Miami also placed in WalletHub’s top 10, landing in fourth and ninth place, respectively.

Here’s WalletHub’s list of the top 10 U.S. cities that are best for starting a career:

  1. Atlanta, Georgia
  2. Orlando, Florida
  3. Salt Lake City, Utah
  4. Tampa, Florida
  5. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
  6. Portland, Maine
  7. Charleston, South Carolina

Is Orlando a good place to work?

Orlando placed as the second-best overall city for starting a career because it has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the U.S. and the second-highest number of entry-level job openings per capita, according to WalletHub’s study.

“People who get a job in Orlando have the potential to experience a lot of income growth, too, as the median household income grows by around 8.2% annually – one of the highest rates in the country,” the study said.

“In addition, people in Orlando have higher job satisfaction than people in most other cities. To top things off, Orlando ranks second among the most fun cities in America, so there’s plenty to do when off the clock.”
