Royal Guests at the Wedding of Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark

Happy 20th Wedding Anniversary to King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark! Royal Guests and Relatives from around the world joined the Danish Royal Family for a spectacular Wedding of Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and Mary Donaldson in Copenhagen on this day in 2004, 20 years ago, following a Gala Performance at the Royal Theatre and a Gala Dinner at Christiansborg Palace.

The Wedding Ceremony of Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and Mary Donaldson was held at Copenhagen Cathedral (The Church of Our Lady), with the bride walking up the aisle to Handel’s ‘Zadok the Priest’.

Afterwards, the Crown Prince and new Crown Princess rode through the streets of Copenhagen to Amalienborg Palace, where they waved to the massive crowds from the balcony, giving a kiss.

In the evening, Queen Margrethe hosted a lavish Banquet at Fredensborg Palace, which was followed by the traditional Bridal waltz, just before midnight, when the guests formed a close heart-shaped group around the couple.

Crown Princess Mary wore an Uffe Frank gown of ivory duchess satin lined with silk organza with her Diamond Wedding Tiara (a gift from Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik) and Marianne Dulong South Sea Pearl Earrings. Crown Prince Frederik wore the dress uniform of the Royal Danish Navy with the Sash and Star of the Order of the Elephant and the Neck Badge and Star of the Order of the Dannebrog.
