"Our friend and colleague Sam Rubin was 64 years old, and has died," fellow KTLA anchor Frank Buckley said on-air, noting that it's instances like this where a warm-hearted Rubin would have known exactly what to say.

"To all of us he shared his mornings with on television, and to those he worked behind the scenes with at KTLA, we will not forget. The role that he cherished most was husband and father," Buckley continued, noting to his family that their "thoughts are with them."

"We share, of course, in this sadness. And, we had to report this to you, here in Southern California. We're going to be sharing more as we learn more," he explained.
