Popular Superhero Tri to return to Dorney Lake for another year this August

A major event dedicated to those with disabilities will be returning to Dorney for another year this August.

The Superhero Series powered by Marvel is a mass-participation sports series and is dedicated to those with disabilities in the UK.

The event, founded by Paralympian Sophia Warner gives people the chance to take part both in-person and virtually.

With the Paris Paralympics only months away, people are being invited to take part in two events this summer.

An At Home Superheroes event will be taking place from Saturday, June 15 to Sunday, July 14 and will see participants from around the world join one of four Marvel-themed super teams.

Each team will be joined by a super partner and a few mascots who will provide encouragement along the way.

The goal is for each team to cover as much distance as possible over the four-week period in any way they can, including walking, wheeling, rowing, running, swimming and completing super sensory challenges.

Every kilometre completed by a member will bring the team closer to the finish line.

Later this summer, participants will be taking to Dorney Lake on Saturday, August 17 to take on the Superhero Tri challenge.

As part of the event, people will have three distances to choose from, each with a range of flexible options.

Participants can either fly solo and take part in all three stages which include a swim, cycle, and push/run or can share the fun with others in a team relay.

Superheroes can also recruit sidekick teammates to push, tow or pull them around the entire course.

The three distances include the Superhero Tri Sprint which features a 150m swim, 3km cycle and 1km push/run.

The Superhero Tri Half features a 400m swim, a 10km cycle and a 2.5km push/run, while the Superhero Tri Full will see participants take on a 750m swim, 20km cycle and a 5km push/run.

When participating people can use various adaptive equipment some of which includes floats, flippers, wheelchairs, baby buggies, and adaptive bikes.

Sophia Warner, Paralympian and founder of the Superhero Series, said: “We're so excited to bring back the Superhero Series for 2024, with even more opportunities for people to come together and be part of something amazing.

“We believe that everyone living with a disability should have the opportunity to experience and reap the benefits of sport and activity, which is exactly what the Superhero Series is about.”
