A PRIESTLEY College student has spent the day working with one of the UK’s leading computer game design companies gaining valuable work experience.
Jake Massey, who studies T-Level Digital Production, Design & Development, helped the lead and senior programmers at 10:10 Games to capture performance data from a game that is currently in development.
“I had an absolutely amazing time at the studio, the staff were all so welcoming and accommodating and I really felt like part of the team,” said the former Sandymoor Ormiston Academy pupil.
During the day Jake worked with the QA department at the company’s headquarters in Warrington.
He was able to suggest any changes or additions to the game and learnt about the tooling 10:10 Games has developed for aiding in analysing and optimizing its hit products.
In a report about Jake’s experience, the company’s Studio ops coordinator Lauren Urhan wrote: “Jake was very attentive to the instructions provided by the Engineers around him and followed them meticulously. He asked a few pointed questions about systems and game mechanics and provided valuable feedback to the gameplay team.”
All T-Level students’ time is split between the classroom and workplace. The qualifications were designed in partnership with employers to ensure the students gain the essential skills that will help them succeed in the workplace.
For Jake it was more than just an informative experience. He said: “I honestly can’t put into words how amazing it was, I almost didn’t want to leave! I hope I can have the opportunity to work with 10:10 Games again in the future if anything comes up.”
