WELCOME TO THE SECOND YEAR BLOG!
We are feeling rather discombobulated by the shorter week and keep thinking we’re a day behind and so this weekend has come surprisingly and pleasingly fast for Second Year pupils and teachers.The big news is that the ducklings have arrived in the Cloisters; they are ridiculously fluffy and sweet.
After a wet bank holiday, we have had lovely sunshine this week and Second Years were galloping round the field at break, bringing clumps of grass into School on their hooves. We had the UK Mathematics Trust Team Maths Challenge this week (report below) and 2W ran a successful book and toy sale to raise money for School charities.
Exam season is upon us; Music and Drama exams are next week. Good luck with the revision this weekend!

Club of the Week
Every Wednesday is Geography Club when we attempt fun and ferocious questions. This week we did a quiz about the geography of the Earth and, as a taster, here is one of the questions: Which country produces the highest amount of rubber? Thailand.
I have also learnt a range of interesting facts, for example did you know the capital of Suriname is Paramaribo? To summarise, this is a great club to build on your existing knowledge of geography. Please come to the room near the Geography office at 12:35pm.

Charity fundraising
This week 2W had a lunchtime Charity Sale in the Cloisters. We brought in toys, books and puzzles to sell, with prices ranging from 50p to £4. Many pupils like me brought in books but some brought in action figures, snow globes and toy cars. During the sale, one Tottenham puzzle was held for auction which reached £4 in the end. On Wednesday, the total amount raised was at £55. Overall, the Charity Sale was a massive success and was great to see so many people supporting a good cause.

Physics Olympiad
On Tuesday, I participated in the Physics Olympiad which was a series of logic questions based around popular topics such as forces and energy stores. All of us whizzed through it! I hope we did well!

Junior Music Workshop Day
On the 21 April, the Hampton Junior Schools’ Workshop Day took place in the Music department and we welcomed pupils from Prep and Junior schools near Hampton from Year 1 to Year 6.
On the day we split into groups: choir, strings and woodwind and brass. Some of the members of ROAR! (a small choir for pupils in First to Third Year), Hampton Concert Orchestra and Sinfonia helped out, and we sang and played alongside our guests. We also chatted to them during a break and lunch, as well as rehearsing in our separate groups.
In the afternoon, we joined together and presented a concert to their parents, showcasing what we had worked on throughout the day. The strings played an arrangement of the Hungarian Dances by Brahms; the woodwind and brass played The Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines by Ron Goodwin; and the choir sang two pieces: ‘You Will be Found’ from Dear Evan Hansen by Steven Levenson and ‘Beyond the Sea’ by Bobby Darin.
The strings and woodwind joined together to play the James Bond Theme, by Monty Norman. And finally, we all performed ‘Do, Re, Mi’from The Sound of Music by Rodgers and Hammerstein. It was amazing to meet and perform with these young musicians and show them what music at Hampton is all about; I am looking forward to taking part next year.

Meet the Mentor!
Oliver Y (2P) catches up with their Sixth Form Mentor, Tom H.
Why did you want to become a Sixth Form Mentor?
Back in First Year, I had a mentor who was very helpful and helped me settle in. So I decided that I wanted to be one when I am in Sixth Form too.
What are you currently studying for Sixth Form?
I’m studying Chemistry, Physics and Maths.
Which of these is your favourite subject?
Chemistry by a quite a distance because it’s a lot more interesting and I’m going to study that in university.
What is your favourite hobby?
Sport wise it is definitely rugby – everyday of the week – but I also sometimes enjoy playing the guitar.
What is your best memory from Hampton?
The Rugby Tour to the Netherlands!
If you could go back in time, what would you say to your teenage yourself?
When I started Hampton, I would probably say to get more involved, as there are a few clubs that I didn’t get the opportunity to try that I would’ve liked to try.
Who is your favourite actor?
Keanu Reeves from the Matrix.
Who do you think is your famous lookalike?
Andrew Garfield
What’s your favourite ice cream?
Maybe not such a popular choice, but I love mint choc chip!
What’s your favourite meal?
Any sorts of pasta! I really like pasta, with any sauce or any shape.
