Hobbies I've dabbled in, what kinds of things do you think I'd be interested in?

So 36 going on 37 dude. I've dabbled in alot of hobbies but always checking stuff out. Spread out through the years of course.

Drawing and Digital Art. I'm not good but the mood hits every once and awhile.

Bullet point ideas for books. Mostly Urban Fantasy/Gamelit. I tend to read those, books for things I'm educating myself on, scifi/fantasy, etc.

Got into painting miniatures through W40k. Done some D&D, rando figures, and customs. Just turn off brain and paint.

Video Games wise I love RPGs just don't have the time as often due to adulting. Minecraft, Grim Dawn, Used to play WoW, OG Doom Modded, Skyrim/Fallout w/mods, Factorio, Fortnite, etc. Whenever I new FF7 drops I make time for those though.

Airsoft was fun but when covid hit alot of fields closed. And eventually last year the last one I was willing to drive to closed. Not going back to paintball and dealing with that mess. So memories and gear in box and missed.

recently been tinkering with rural cut signal entertainment. Storms/wind tend to knock out internet or the ol Bunny ears. So set up media server stuff, physical copy collection, dvr, etc. Probably should start working on music, podcasts, audiobooks, etc. Can set up some games to run Ai v Ai stuff that I can just watch like Mutant League Football, fighter games, other sports, some RTS games, etc. Kinda wish there were more racing/monster truck type games that I could set up to just watch. I've jokingly bought "The Movies" from Lionsgate studios to make silly clips and such for a Plex server where I could make my own TV channels. Right now has the test channel of all John Wick films on loop, and a good ol randomized Looney Tunes channel. Also have a tv Guide channel for it plus can add a folder for "commercials" I can play on my channels lol. Have the DVD collection from...all the way back early 2000's. Plus sometimes look for deals for entire long series or things I like. Sometimes splurged for things like the DVDs for Animators Survival Guide. Anime, tv series, movies, etc.

I used the Card Creator software found on Steam to make TCG like cards for organizing ideas and things. Sorted down my budget alot by sorting out income and varied expenses/subscriptions. Might recycle that idea since I haven't done it in awhile. (Also I suppose I did TCGs back in HS but not going back to it as a hobby.)

Board game nights with a friends. Can't get enough of Space Base. Dice Forge is fun. Blanking on the names of so many other games I've found fun. Mostly its an excuse for the guys in the group to pretend to be social for a minute before trying to beat eachother in games

I wouldn't say I actively am a cook but I try new things. I do ok on my diet but every once and awhile you see something on Social Media that looks too good not to try.

So yeah, alot, probably shouldn't be asking for more but curiosity hit when I was looking over stuff.

Making instruments such as diddle bow, penny whistle , Native American flutes, drums, and a few other non American indigenous instruments, is fun . I also have done painting and echoing art on steel . Wood routing art. I guess it comes down to take your tools of choice and make something tangible

Have messed with clay and basic wood working. Main problem is that I do not have an ear for making music. I can copy music/ read sheet. Played trumpet mechanically in middle school, alittle keyboarding, and been putting off playing rocksmith to learn guitar. I have worry if I try to make instruments theyd come out sounding like a mayan death whistle.

I also am non musical. I do the best I can with the wood wind , have no sense of time or rhythm. I made a few cigar box guitars ( playable but not by me) I do the best I can in making and let others do the playing 😂. I love the sound of an erhu si I made a copy out of a cookie tin and a 1x1 bought a cheap bow and some strings , pizza pick up and made something similar. The kids love it . I have more fun in the making then I do in the playing

Maybe you might enjoy some kind of acting?

Or even designing simple board games and card games. If not that, building board game components and containers like dice towers could be fun!

Thought about doing skits and used to do a positive news series on YouTube. Did my one hs theater class and saw a bunch of stage shows in college. My respect to thespians, but I could not do that. One, I sing like I just got an injection at the dentists. But also after my lil sister tortured me through watching musical movies together as kids and college doing the same, I'd make Forrest Gump look winded by how far I want to be away from that.

Game design... I could see doing that and know some people who might know some people. Part of the tcg stuff in hs I made played a game that was basically something like build a robot and battle but was set up to be random drawn pieces/attacks sorta like yugioh. Friends had fun with it and made up their own scrap paper cards.

Lego mosaic art. Design it on a computer, create in real life.

Oh! Yeah I should try that. I have the ol lego toys in a bin somewhere but probably have to buy tubs of blocks for the art. But could sorta zen garden it. Create art and take apart to reuse blocks. Also I think tub has the two ol Nxt robo sets (og blue and red robo final release). Which is something that was bought and never used.

To me, it's pixel art IRL lol. So it works well for images from games. I just thought it was something different for you but compatible with a lot of your other interests. I've seen some stunning work and personally find it relaxing.

I saw you mentioned DnD miniatures but do you actually play DnD? Seems like the common thread uniting most of the stuff you’ve mentioned. Game nights, RPG, painting minis, reading, writing fantasy stories, drawing. All the traits of a great DM

Been thinking of joining a group. Probably an online session. Tried joining when a coworker was talking about the game he was DMing that was about to start but he has enough chaos with his friends lol. But yeah absolutely see your point. I should probably make some materials (art info whatever) for Pathfinder. Cause if I remember right Pathfinder still allows you to freely publish your own materials where as DnD either planned to or the new editions make it so you can't.

You definitely should, it’s a ton of fun!

The company that owns DnD essentially announced last year that they were going to collect royalties from companies who made significant amounts of money off of DnD content, but they walked it back after they got a ton of backlash. So you can totally freely publish your own stuff.

The main difference between DnD and Pathfinder is that Pathfinder is quite a bit more complicated—more rules, more numbers. It’s based on older editions of DnD, while the current and next editions of DnD have been simplified to focus more on storytelling and role playing. Both cool, just depends on how much you’re into the minutia of rules.

If you wanted to start a game with friends you could totally just read the rules and watch some play throughs and start your own campaign and everyone can just learn as they go along. If not, you could try checking out your local game shop and seeing if they host any DnD games, or if they have a board of people looking for players or campaigns.

As an author, if you have book ideas, the best way to do that is take up writing as a hobby.

You're right. Ive been thinking of mostly random ideas that don't really fit together or have a bigger story. But I probably should pick something out and do shorts like the ol adventures books (tarzan, conan, carter of mars, etc.)
