READING Task 1 Read the following text carefully! Then, write five difficult words and the definition of each word! How to Look After Your Mental Health Using Exercise There are many reasons why physical activity is good for your body-having a healthy heart and improving your joints and bones are just two, but did you know that physical activity is also beneficial for your mental health and well-being? In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we spoke to Pooja Lakshmin, MD, a member of the Peloton Health and Wellness Advisory Council, who specializes in women's health and perinatal psychiatry and is the founder and CEO of Gemma. She shared a few suggestions for how we can make sure our workouts are helping - not harming - our mental health. Make Exercise a Consistent Habit Although the mental benefit of exercise comes in part from the surge of endorphins, Dr. Lakshmin explains that working out regularly also creates a positive feedback loop. "It's less about the type of activity you do, and more about having it be something that's a regular habit," she says. "Whether that is cardio, or weight training, or yoga, we think more about the frequency of how often you're engaging in an activity." "That's because consistency will give you a sense of mastery, as well as control and agency over how you spend your time," she says. Making fitness a part of your daily life gives you the satisfaction of having set your sights on a task, and completed it. Don't Wait for Motivation to Hit "Often the times when you least want to exercise are the times when it can be the most helpful," points out Dr. Lakshmin. But when you aren't in the mood to work out, it can be tempting to put it off. "There's a concept we talk about in psychology called behavioral activation. Basically, it means that when you're feeling bad, it's really hard to motivate yourself to do something you know is going to make you feel good." Instead of waiting for motivation to strike, however, the key is to try to push yourself to do at least a little bit of exercise. As psychologists like to put it, mood follows action. Showing up, even when you don't want to, will change how you feel. Focus on Values, Rather than Goals Although setting fitness goals can inspire us to push ourselves to new heights, they can also backfire. "When you become really rigid around 'I need to do 60 -minute workout every single day, and if don't do that then I'm a failure,' that's harmful," says Dr. Lakshmin. Lean Into Your Workouts When You're Stressed Exercise can be an extra helpful coping mechanism during times of transition, or really any stressful period. "There's the biochemical element of the endorphins that get released, but also bringing you back to a sense of agency, that you're doing something you know is aligned with your values, that you're able to master," says Dr. Lakshmin. "It gives you a feeling of control when maybe you feel like your outside."

See Answer05/12/2024Shifting Strategies Minimalism and Nop Art pawed the way for later artists to explore questions about the conceptual nature of art. its form, its production and its ability to communicate in different ways. In the late 1960s and 1970 s, these ideas led to a "dematerialization of art," when artists turned away from painting and sculpture to experiment with new formats including photography, film and video, performance art large-seale installations and earth works. Atthough some critics of the time foretold "the death of painting," art today encompasses a broad range of traditional and experimental media. including works that rely on Internet technology and other scientific innovations. Chuck Close. Lwas/IVoolcut. 1993. Wootcut and pochoir. 36 xx30^(-) . Contemporary artists continue to use a varied vocabulary of abstract and representational forms to convey their ideas. It is important to remember that the art of our time did not develop in a vacuum; rather, it reflects the social and political concems of its cultural context. For example, artists like Judy Chicago, who were inspired by the feminist movement of the early 1970s , embraced imagery and art forms that had historical connections to women. In the 1980s, artists appropriated the style and methods of mass media advertising to investigate issues of cultural authority and identity politics. More recently, artists like Maya Lin, who designed the Vietnam Veterans' Memorial Wall in Washington D.C., and Richard Serra, who was loosely associated with Minimalism in the 1960s , have adapted characteristics of Minimalist art to create new abstract sculptures that encourage more personal interaction and emotional response among viewers. Maya Ving Lin. Virtuam Whonos Momorial, 1982 These shifting strategies to engage the viewer show how contemporary art's significance exists beyond the object itself. Its meaning develops from cultural discourse, interpretation and a range of individual understandings, in addition to the formal and conceptual problems that first motivated the artist. In this way, the art of our times may serve as a catalyst for an on-going process of open discussion and intellectual inquiry about the world today. Do you have any idea how our world was created? Can you share it to anyone at home? Among all the many stories about the creation of the world, here is one that the Panay People never gets tired of relating to younger generations. Where is Panay? HOW THE WORLD WAS CREATED (Panay) 1 One of the stories about the creation of the world, which the old folks of Panay, especially those living near the mountain, do not tire relating, tells us that in the beginning there was no heaven or earth-only a bottomless deep and a world of mist. Everything was shapeless and formless-the earth, the sky, the sea, and the air were slmost all mixed up. 2 Then from the depth of this formless void, there appeared two gods, -Tungkung Langit and Alunsins. Just where the two deities came from it was not known. However, it is related that Tungkung Langit fell in love with Alunsina and, after so many years of courtship, they got married and had their abode in the highest realm of the eternal space where the water was constantly warm and the breeze was forever cool. It was in this place where order and regularity first took place. 3 Tungkung Langit was an industrious, loving, and kind god whose chief concem was how to impose order over the whole confused set-up of things. He assumed responsibility for the regular cosmic movement. On the other hand. Alunsina was a lazy. jealous, and selfish goddess whose only work was to sit by the window of their heavenly home, and amuse herself with her pointiess thoughts. Sometimes, she would go down from the house, sit down by a pool near their doorstep and comb her long, jet-black hair all day long. 4 One day Tungkung Langit told his wife that he would be away from home for sometime to put an end to the chaotic disturbances in the flow of time and in the position of things. The jealous Alunsins, however, sent the sea breeze to spy on Tungkung Langit. This made the latter very angry upon knowing about it 5 Immediately after his return from the trip, he called this act to her attention saying that it was ungodly of her to be jealous, there being no other creature living in the world except the two of them. This reproach was resented by Alunsina, and a quarrel between them followed. 6 Tungkung Langit lost his temper. In this rage, he divested his wife of powers and drove her away. No one knew where Alunsina went; she merely disappeared. 7 Several days after Alunsina left, however. Tunglung Langit felt very lonely. He realized what he had done. Somehow, it was too late even to be sorry about the whole matter. The whole place once vibrant with Alunsina's sweet voice, suddenly became cold and desolate. In the morning, when he woke up he would find himself alone and in the afternoon when he came home, he would feel the same loneliness creeping deep in his heart because there was no one to meet him st the doorstep or soothe the aching muscles of his arms. 8 For months, Tungkung Langit lived in utter desolation. He could not find Alunsina, try hard as he would. And so, in his desperstion, he decided to do something in order to forget his sorrows. For months and months he thought. His mind seemed pointless, his heart, weary, and sick. But he must have to do something about his loneliness. 8 One day, while he was sailing across the regions of the clouds, a thought came to him. He would make a big basin of water below the sky so that he can see the image of his wife, if she
