Thousands still without power Saturday in Portage County, but numbers dropping.

Ravenna Record-Courier

FirstEnergy Corp. reports that about 8,350 of its Portage County customers were still without power as of 7:47 p.m. Saturday following a storm with high winds late Thursday / early Friday.

This includes more than 1,700 customers in Kent, more than 1,000 in Ravenna Township, nearly 900 in Shalersville, more than 750 in Aurora, about 675 in Rootstown, about 570 in Mantua Township and more than 500 in Franklin Township. Other communities each had fewer than 500 customers without power.

This is a marked improvement over Friday when more than 25,000 were without power at one point during the day or even late Saturday morning, when nearly 11,000 were without power.

Estimated restoration time is currently by 11 p.m. Monday for most communities, but is now Sunday at 11 p.m. for about 120 customers in Brady Lake. Estimated restoration times are always subject to possible change, however, with power possibly restored sooner or later than the estimated time.
