Lee Greenwood is celebrating the 40th anniversary of his song “God Bless the USA” by releasing a DVD recording of a special concert and putting the funds raised towards new homes for veterans.

“This is the 40th anniversary of me writing my song ‘God Bless the USA’—so that was the inspiration to have the number 40 represented in this musical presentation,” Greenwood said.

“There are 40 different singers we invited to film this DVD. And these performances were a one-time thing. We had all of these people gathered for just one event, and it was very important to me that we were able to give away two homes to two veterans—two of America’s wounded warriors—during the filming,” he added.

The DVD features performances from Lee Brice, Big & Rich, Jeff Carson, the Oak Ridge Boys and others. “Special guests like Dolly Parton, Kid Rock, and even former President George W. Bush provided video messages of love and support for the patriotic song,” American Songwriter reported.

The country legend hopes that they can sell enough DVDs of the concert to build more homes for veterans. In the past 15 years, the singer has funded the construction of 220 homes for those who have served our country.

“I have a lot of friends who are of [Vietnam-era veteran] age,” Greenwood said. “And I always say, ‘Thank you for your service.’ It’s just been a passion of mine. And now, of course, the War on Terror has delivered so many of our soldiers home [who have been] wounded desperately.”

Despite the problems currently affecting our country, Greenwood continues to believe that America has been blessed by God to be a light to the rest of the world.

“We’re a beacon of hope for the rest of the world,” he said. “There are other countries that embrace freedom, but no other country has the ability to protect it, to go after those who would defeat it and destroy it.”

“I still believe that if America continues to live by the doctrines we started with—and that’s the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights—if we live by those documents, no matter if the administration changes or not, then we can move on as an American public,” he added. “And I have great faith in it.”

As Americans across the country prepare for their celebration of the Fourth of July, singer and recording artist Lee Greenwood’s iconic song “God Bless the USA” is a staple for many.

Greenwood, who previously performed at the Moiveguide® Awards, recently shared his heart behind writing the anthem.

“I was raised on a farm in Sacramento, California, and my grandparents were just wonderful. I was allowed to excel in music and sports as long as I did my job on the farm,” Greenwood told CBN in an interview. “When you learn to work with the earth, you have a great respect for it.”

“I left home at 17-years-old and went to Las Vegas not really seeing the rest of the country and world through normal eyes because Nevada was kind of a bubble, but I lived through the Vietnam era.
