Michigan gambling taxes overview
Wagering on sports in Michigan is subjected to tax. There are “winning taxes” which refer to taxes you must pay on any winnings you earn. You can also claim deductions for losses incurred from gambling on your federal tax return. Land-based and online gambling in Michigan is subjected to a flat 4.25% state income tax. Federal income tax rates vary based on your total individual income.

Mobile sports betting is entirely legal in Michigan. You can feel comfortable knowing that any sports betting site you access in the state is fully licensed and regulated to offer its services.
What is the Michigan sports betting tax?
Michigan sports betting winners are subject to reporting their winnings over $599 to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The federal tax on winnings can approach as high as 37%, but the Michigan state tax is set at 4.25%.
How old do I have to be to participate in sports betting in Michigan?
To participate in sports betting in Michigan, you must be of the legal gambling age of 21 years old or older.
