Kadokawa has announced the release of a new High School DxD light novel spinoff series titled Junior High School DxD on May 17, 2024. The first volume of the spinoff will be titled “The Transfer Student is a Samurai Girl.”

The spinoff was first announced at the Fantasia Bunko Daikanshasai Online 2023 livestream event in October 2023, with more details about the series revealed on the anime’s official Twitter. It’s not currently clear if the spinoff will be a one-volume novel or a full series.

Junior High School DxD is set after volume 10 of the original light novel series and the High School DxD Hero TV’s anime timeline. Rias Gremory and several other characters from the main series are expected to make appearances in the spinoff.

The main story is centered on a descendant of Miyamoto Musashi, whose life takes a drastic turn when she comes into possession of a magical sword. The sword’s unique ability allows the user to absorb power by piercing an enemy’s chest, and channeling it to enhance its wielder’s breast size. Despite this circumstance, the girl just wants to make new friends and live a colorful teenage life.

Ishibumi and Miyama-Zero published the High School DxD light novels from September 20, 2008 to March 20, 2018 for a total of 25 volumes. A light novel sequel series called Shin High School DxD was published on July 20, 2018, with four volumes released as of February 20, 2020. The sequel series has since been on hiatus due to Ishibumi’s failing health.

The series also includes four short story collections, spinoff novels, manga series, and video games. It has inspired four TV anime seasons in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2018, with TNK producing the first three seasons and Passione producing the fourth season.

Funimation licensed and streamed High School DxD, before the series moved to Crunchyroll. The former describes the synopsis as:

Issei Hyodo is your average perverted high school student whose one wish in life is to have his own harem, but he’s got to be one of the unluckiest guys around. He goes on his first date with a girl only to get brutally attacked and killed when it turns out the girl is really a vicious fallen angel. To top it all off, he’s later reincarnated as a devil by his gorgeous senpai who tells him that she is also a devil and now his master! One thing’s for sure, his peaceful days are over. In a battle between devils and angels, who will win?
