I really appreciated what QoS was going for and the aesthetic and tonal direction it was taking the Craig era in. It's got its flaws due to the writers strike and Forster's inexperienced action direction & bad editing choices, but I'd argue even with those flaws I'd place it in the lower top 10 for the franchise. I think in a world where Stuart Baird stayed on as the principle editor and a more experienced big budget director helmed the project (Tony Scott was a candidate and would have probably been a much better fit than Forster was), it probably would be considered better than Skyfall (especially if it got a finished script out prior to the strike).

It is interesting to wonder how different the Craig era would have been if QoS had been better received & made an extra $100 million or so and if that would be enough to do a third Craig film in 2010 etc. Even though I enjoyed Skyfall, I feel like it moved the Craig era away from the things that I liked the most about it & that made it so unique to begin with. If Craig had a third film in 2010 that carried over the aesthetics from the first two movies, it might make the tone established enough that EON might feel more obliged to maintain them by Skyfall.

People always bring up the writer's strike with this movie, but honestly the only thing that is a bit confusing is the resolution of Vesper's situation with her boyfriend. It could have used a bit more exposition. But as far as the main plot of the film goes, it's one of the more straightforward Bond films, fairly easy to follow.

So I'm genuinely curious, what impact did the writer's strike really have?

People act like the writers strike meant there were unfinished scenes in the shooting schedule. It really means that they had a number of finished drafts but no writers were available to do ad-hoc rewrites

To be honest, the best way to watch the movie is right after Casino Royale. It is an epilogue of the story. This is why the gun barrel sequence is at the end

This video essay is a couple of years old but it's the balanced, technical analysis I've been trying to find for ages. Naturally, the channel never uploaded any more :/

I have a nostalgic attachment to QoS. It was the first film that me and my wife saw in theaters, but it arguably is the worst Craig film, but only because they are all good, so how do you rank the best?

Just here too say Kureyenko is an incredible bond girl. QoS is a great action movie and smashes Spectre.
