Nice, I saw this one before. I hope that someone can repackage the series in 12x12 earbook.

    RE: Those 1991-2011 brackets ...

Absolutely, totally agree. Anyway there is enough brilliant material outside those brackets ... however, within ... (all very personal :)!!)

... RE: Froese's projects/series- personal favourite would be:
    · the 7 Letters from Tibet ***/*
    · the DANTE Trilogy **/*
    · the Cup Discs Series *** the 1st three:
    One Times One (2007) cupdisc#1 *** Froese
    Purple Diluvial (2008) cupdisc#2 **(*) Froese + 2 great tracks by Quäschning ***(*)
    Flame (2009) cupdisc#3 *** Froese
    · the Chandra diptych- 1st one out of the 2 ***
    · The 4 Sonic Poem Series ***
    · Grand Theft Auto V ***/* might well be 1st volume of many!!(?)
    · Sorcerer expanded version ***/*

    ... RE: The albums

    Seattle-post Seattle / aka father & son (91-2000)
    :

220 Volt Live (aka Arizona Live) ***
    Tournado ***

    Froese's Projects + Q (2000- 2014):

The ones mentioned above ... +

Jeanne d'Arc- La Revolte Eternelle **/*
    Madcap's Flaming Duty ***/*
    (bias!! otherwise *** :))

PS: Can't express myself on the Booster Series yet.

Altogether 18 acceptable to v. good albums ... not too bad for a sticky period (massive improvement with Q joining the band!) If I tread outside those it depresses me and I feel I am wasting my time!

I know someone who says Madcap is among their very favourite TD albums, among the usual suspects of Phaedra, Stratosfear, Raum, UK/IRL sessions etc.
The point is: it does show that they could branch off into other sectors, just not always take their established audiences along and / or build a targeted new one.

I do like it as well.

But it sure is among those releases that draw the most polarized reactions.
And I am not even turning over to Dante.

... another example of a strange and confusing release policy:
    Das Romantische Opfer.
Initially released in 2008 as a single for the Loreley gig, it was later put in Booster III ... renamed to Romantic Vision (Part I / 2 of Das Romantische Opfer), split into two parts and Part 2 sequenced before Part 1.

I think I do prefer the first released form on the single. The opening is more atmospheric and I prefer it this way. The buildup suits me better.
I do like the guitar. It suits the track and is emotional.

    It's a track by Froese.

My current rating is 3 from 6.

The discogs entry is a bit confusing. It says both unofficial and CDR-Promo.
It seems to be not on voices, or I am not looking deeply enough.

    Now ... what?

RE: Quantum Years / Behind Closed Doors #1 & #2 Box Set 2020

does anyone know when the 2nd session with von Deyler was recorded? It must have been sometime in late October 2020 (?) The session was not included in the box set but ended up on Schiller’s album Summer In Berlin under the title Dem Himmel So Nah. He was wearing a black short-sleeved shirt.

The lists on the net are all over the place, here they are in chronological order …

    Behind Closed Doors #1:

1 Paul Frick (Brandt Brauer Frick, Tangerine Dream) May 7th
2 Lutz Ulbrich aka “Lüül” (Agitation Free, Ash Ra Tempel, 17 Hippies) May 11th
3 Satoshi Okamoto (sub-tle., Klaus Dinger + Japandorf) May 14th
    4 Franz Bargmann (Michael Rother’s Neu!, Ex-Camera) May 18th
5 Stephan Bobinger (Way Beyond) May 21st
6 Hoshiko Yamane (Tangerine Dream, Jane Birkin, Tukico) May 25th
    7 Benjamin Schwenen (Counter-World Experience) May 28th
8 Christopher von Deylen aka Schiller June 1st
9 Markus Reuter (Stick Men, King Crimson Project) June 4th
    10 Anna-Maria van Reusel (APAT) June 8th
11 Schwarz (Roland Meyer de Voltaire) June 11th
12 Adrian Bang (Aqua Nebula Oscillator, Chemsex) June 15th

    Behind Closed Doors #2:

1 Freddy Hau (Hau9, Luxuslärm, Jini Meyer Band) Sept. 7th
2 Harald Großkopf (Wallenstein, Ash Ra Tempel, Klaus Schulze, Lilli Berlin) + Paul Frick (Brandt Brauer Frick, Tangerine Dream) Sept. 10th
3 Jan Pfennig aka Stix (Stix on Speed, Konta K) Sept. 14th
4 Mya Audrey (Dinah, Schwarz) Sept. 17th
5 Shawn Crowder (Sungazer) + Markus Reuter (Stick Men, The Crimson ProjeKCt, Centrozoon) Sept. 21st
6 Shir-Ran Yinon (Mondëna Quartet, New Model Army, Haggard) Sept. 24th
7 Dan Schechter (Insect Ark, Swans) + Franz Bargmann (Michael Rother´s Neu!, Ex-Camera) Sept. 28th
8 Lutz Ulbrich aka “Lüül” (Agitation Free, Ash Ra Tempel, 17 Hippies) + Knut Hagedorn (Knut Hagedorn Quartett, 17 Hippies) + Franz Bargmann (Michael Rother, Ex-Camera) Oct. 1st
9 Hoshiko Yamane (Tangerine Dream, Jane Birkin, Tukico) + Paul Frick (Brandt Brauer Frick, Tangerine Dream) Oct. 5th
10 Kristof Hahn (Swans) Oct. 8th
11 Alex Kozmidi (Camera) Oct. 12th
12 Helge Sorg (Ugly Dub) Oct. 19th
13 Stephan Graf von Bothmer Oct. 26th
[14 Christopher von Deylen (Schiller) not included in BCD#2 boxset but on Schiller’s album Summer In Berlin as Dem Himmel So Nah]

The 3 ones with Franz Bargmann are the ones I seem to play the most (worth getting the box for) and the 3 ones with Frick (particularly + Großkopf and just Q)

Sorg, Kozmidi, Ulbrich (2nd series), Okamoto and Reuter do stand out too.

Disappointing ones? Surprisingly enough … the one with just Yamane and the one with just Ulbrich but who knows someday I might well change my mind ...?

All fab on a big screen (HD quality picture) with great speakers and a couple of IPAs!! Drawback? Reminds us of sombre days …

That would be the way I'd like to see this go. Same format as Dante, then the next box set of this kind that would be an obvious choice would be the sonic poems.

At the same time creating such boxes or "brackets" within the discography could a) appeal to "get it all in one go" types b) if done right make some of us buy the same stuff again c) give us some beautiful stuff to fill our shelves with

    :)

The only problem ... sorry to say ... is that it "may" fall short if compared to the current Dreamers' standards.

RE: Views From A Red Train (missed the 3rd part of the noughties trilogy)

A throwback to the Seattle Years ... and def. the best of the Seattle Years if ever this makes sense :)... this is what that dire period should have sounded like- prominence of the guitar/s but still Tangerine Dream!
And Beibl's guitar playing is really impressive.

Mea culpa ... I should have included it (since my list does not have any of the Seattle Years albums- did hesitate about VFRT). Very guitar oriented for a TD album but this was clearly the idea and I should think another experiment of sorts ... Funnily enough, this album is very much like its artwork- expansive/ever expending (indulgent?), rock red and monochrome ...
Not my favourite by any mean (way too long) but quite daring in many ways ... I do like it but I usually do have to stop midway to resume later on ... deserves to be in there.

Makes for an interesting and highly listenable trilogy- Jeanne d'Arc / Madcap's Flaming Duty / Views From A Red Train ... could not be more different from each other ... favourite of the 3 is def. M'sFD and by a long way (IMO the most successful of the sung albums); Jd'A being the less satisfactory/the most flawed/"messy" ... IMHO!

I have the Ozrics' "book" set of Vitamin Enhanced and I can't stand it! I took the CDs out (more like wrestled them) and put them all in slim cases with artwork.

Anyway, for TD... For the Atomic Seasons series, I mostly listen to the last two, though have them all. Edgar improved with each volume, IMHO.

    Regards,
    Dave

Totally agree ... love box sets too (whether vinyl, CD or DVD/BluRays- not so sure about memory stick box sets- ie/ BCD#1&#2 :))!

My weirdest box set format-wise!! So glad to have it though! Winter time box set :)! (Xmas-time binge-listening/watching ...)

I agree with @Jaar21, I don't warm up with Schiller's music ... except for the Q/S colabs. I am still debating with myself to get the BR with those, but I currently ...

But BHCD ... Don't like the format but the box set itself. (Unfortunately the signature on mine has been done not with a permanent key, it can be wiped away.)
But I think the stick is nice, and with it's contents a stick does make sence. This stick is more beautiful than an SD card, but that would have enabled a different box format, more like a book.

By now I have got three USB sticks with releases and limited music. All are special and show that they were carefully selected.

Well, and to put BCD on CDs ... it would have been a huuuge box set, with a much higher price point.
I understand your love for physical ... I take this as where both worlds meet.
The files went straight onto my hard drive and is loved.

I still need to find some time to jump into this rabbit hole. At the moment, I have too much boxsets and other albums awaiting their first spins. A world class problem, LOL. I might change my strategy and get the Bandcamp downloads once per week to achieve the tasks… I will start with the ones with Hoshiko for sure. This is a long overdue item on my wishlist.

Yes, I am doing it similarly, not on an as regular basis, but still. My Hoshiko folder is the largest for all solo Dreamers, excluding Thorsten's Behind Closed Doors, obviously that one is a singular manifestation.
I don't know if the box set is still available, you can still add it to the cart.
    shop
On the stick you also get the videos, interviews, the gear tour etc.

I am also doing something like that for Klaus Schulze. Just listened to La Vie Electronique 1 for the first time and did quite enjoy those early recordings, first experiments.

And also I am doing a deep dive into TD 2005+. Spent more money on them this year already than I wanted, but ... hunting and gathering, the joy if collecting and filling gaps.

... they can be drastically different from one to the other ... usually 4 star material or close to that but there are a couple I can't myself get into ... ie/her 1st official solo album Threads and her collab with Mikael Lind: Spaces In Between (slowly growing on me ...). Sketches (Stories Of 100 Years Ago) in 2020 [live soundtracks to silent movies] is not an easy ride either ...

Dear God, how I DESPISE his guitar playing. I saw him at the Howard Theater with TD on their Electric Mandarine tour. It was the last time I saw TD live when Edgar was still alive. Biebl’s playing was bombastic and clichéd with that slick “rockist” screaming distortion style. I felt so disappointed, betrayed, and disgusted at what my favorite group had become. :hurlleft: And it wasn’t just Biebl, but he was the worst aspect.
