UNK’s Transitional Certification Program paves the way for Vincent Smail’s return to Lincoln High School

Vincent Smail's journey to becoming a teacher was not easy, but it was worth it. After a journey through five different higher educational institutions, Vincent now finds himself crossing the commencement stage at UNK with a master's in Curriculum and Instruction and a teaching certificate through UNK's Transitional Certification Program. Fourteen years after his high school graduation, he is back at Lincoln fulfilling his true calling as a high school business teacher.

Upcoming graduate Kelcie Burke did not expect a master's degree to be in her future. Encouraged by her mentor, Dr. Marisa Macy, she discovered the flexibility and support of UNK's online program, allowing her to excel in her studies. She will not only have a Master's of Arts in Education degree but also a Doctoral degree, as she has recently been accepted into UNL's Ph.D. program for the fall.
