Fall 2024: Rolling Admissions

The MPA Program is now accepting applications for fall 2024 on a rolling basis. Please apply online as soon as you are ready, and email the program directly at mpa@ccny.cuny.edu so our team can provide guidance as needed.

How to Apply

To apply, follow the steps outlined on the Admissions Office Graduate Studies Overview webpage, which will guide you on how to create an online account, pay the application fee, and submit the required application materials. The required application materials are the following: a personal statement, short essays, a resume, two letters of recommendation, and transcripts from all higher education institutions attended. The GRE is not required. You must submit TOEFL scores if English is not your native language and you have not studied full-time for at least two years at a university in a country where English is the official language (read more about the TOEFL requirement here.) The video below will help to orient you to the online application system.

How Are Candidates Selected?

The admissions committee reviews applications on a rolling basis and invites strong candidates to an admissions interview. Interviews are conducted remotely on Zoom. Candidates receive an admissions decision by email after their interview.

When reviewing candidates, the admissions committee takes a holistic view of each candidate and considers a broad range of characteristics, including but not limited to the following:

  • professional experience
  • dedication to civic engagement and/or public service
  • academic achievement
  • commitment to personal growth and reflection
  • writing skills
  • critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • work ethic and resilience
  • life story, including adverse events that candidates may have experienced

There is no minimum GPA, but we do look favorably upon a record of academic achievement. We do not require applicants to have a background in the social sciences; applicants of diverse undergraduate majors are welcome to apply, especially those who can relate what they have studied - no matter their major - to their understanding of social problems and public service.
