Season 12 of the improv comedy series Whose Line Is It Anyway? will be its last, according to a tweet from Colin Mochrie, one of its lead performers.
“Hey everyone. Hope you are enjoying the current season of Whose Line,” he wrote. “In January, we shoot our final season. Thank you all for the support over the years.”
Season 11 of the revival is currently airing on The CW Friday nights at 9/8c. Its final run will mark its 12th season on The CW, but 20th overall, including six seasons on ABC and two on ABC Family.
TVLine has reached out to The CW for comment.
Whose Line’s current roster includes Mochrie, Wayne Brady and Ryan Stiles. Aisha Tyler has served as host since 2013.
The young-skewing CW network faces an uncertain fate: Local-TV giant Nexstar Media Group recently acquired a 75 percent ownership stake, with plans to target older viewers and add low-cost, unscripted programming. Longtime network head Mark Pedowitz departed The CW shortly after the acquisition was finalized.
Since then, Supernatural and Walker prequels have not received backorders (though Season 2 renewals are still a possibility), due to a decision made by the network’s new Nexstar-appointed president Dennis Miller. In addition, two of The CW’s other scripted originals were recently cancelled. DC’s Stargirl will end with Season 3, and Nancy Drew will close its story with Season 4. Fellow veterans The Flash (entering Season 9) and Riverdale (entering Season 7) are also set to end next year.

That’s weird, it’s unscripted and perfect for the new CW.
Probably not right wing enough for the new leadership.
Do you have ANY idea what you are talking about?? That is one of the dumbest comments I have read in awhile. WB/Discover owns DC Comics. DC comics now had a gay SuperMan & Bi Robin. Does that seem right wing to you?? Don’t be so ignorant. Reality TV has slowly taken over for scripted TV because it’s so cheap to make. TVline, if you remove my message I’d like a reason for it. You’ve been deleting my comments for a while now. Doesn’t seem right.
You might have missed it, but the CW is now owned and managed by Nexstar Media Group. CBS and Warner Bros Discover each now only have very, very small shares in the network, and little to no say in the operation of the network.
.
Nexstar purchasing the network and taking over is what triggered the cancellation of virtually every show currently running on the network. They want to replace everything with shows that are super cheap to make and that they hope will appeal to a much older demographic.
man I thought for sure that Nexstar wouldn’t touch this, especially considering that this show is unscripted
But it still has professional performers who have been with the show forever and probably with increasing salaries, even if they are lower than bigger-name stars. I’m assuming when they want unscripted, it’s going to be shows full of pretty nobodies who want their 15 minutes of fame.
Great, just what we need, more exploitive reality shows, like the ones that air on WE or TLC.
There’s a remote possibility it was a decision by the show to end, and not Nexstar. (Admittedly, with Nexstar canceling just about everything else, that doesn’t seem as likely, but it’s possible.)
.
I mean, Stiles is 63 and Mochrie is 64. When you include the UK run, Stiles has been doing the show since 1989 and Mochrie since 1991. They both could have just decided that enough was enough. Without the two of them, the show producers could have decided to simply end.
Well, this is just terrible news! I’ve loved “Whose Line” since its very first episode way back when. It’s the ONLY show that can give me real belly laughs and make me laugh til I literally cry! CW is making a huge mistake by canceling this show, IMHO. My heart is breaking.
Was never the same once Aisha showed up
When Aisha showed up… to start the revival series after the original had been out of production for six years? Then?
Any other particular reason you have a problem with Aisha? Because this comment raises questions.
You’re right, it was far better than while Drew Carey was ruining, I mean hosting, it.
Because this asshat is not only racist but misogynistic
Please do us the normal human race and just die off
How sad. One of the funniest shows of all time. Thank you to the cast for bringing us comedy, especially over the last couple of years when we all needed so very much to laugh. No matter what we all say, it won’t change what network TV does for their bottom line. All about the Benjamins $$$$
and one of the funniest times is when wayne messes up as he’s been another contatnt on this show and the last couple of years when he messes up he messes up big time, as there was one where i saw it the first time and i watched the re-run 3 times and still laughed at the mess-up even though i knew it was coming and sure they took there shots at trump but considering other shows they were tame
Thank God. Ever since this show came back, it was used as a star-pimping tool for the network. It may as well have been on Disney Channel.
Aisha Tyler was a dreadful host. You thought Drew sat behind the desk and did nothing?
yeah but she did something Drew never did, played Scenes from a Hat (like literally got up and made suggestions)
Admittedly, the guest stars were wholly unnecessary, but I feel like that was forced onto the show by the CW. Luckily, those are only one or two games per show, and you can skip over those.
.
As far as hosts, I actually prefer Aisha over Drew… she just has so much more of a relaxed, naturally funny and charismatic personality, and always seems to enjoy doing the show.
Like I said. Star pimping.
Drew seemed to enjoy doing the show. His laughter was infectious. Aisha either laughed the way three year olds cry, or looked bored. Terrible host.
Technically it’s been going for 30 seasons, ran for 10 in the UK with much of the same cast (Stiles and Mochrie, Wayne Brady also featured sometimes as did Greg Proops). Got cancelled over here as fewer and fewer young British comedians were featured and the ratings declined.
This is terrible news. I watch this show to be entertained by quick thinking minds and talent with energy that never lets me down. I find it to be very refreshingly uplifting compared to much that is broadcast . Always positive and puts a smile on my face. Sad to see it end.
I’ve loved this show since Drew Carey started it. Always good for laughs. I’ll miss it
This news saddens me because who’s line is a fresh new show with every week’s new episode.
It really raises the bore factor of so many other shows because of their boring story line.
Seems like this would be the perfect show to continue on the CW.
Sad news. This has long been a favorite show. Seems like this would be a natural to keep since it’s an unscripted, fun format.
Old, conservative, people don’t like improv so Nexstar canned it.
Not 100% true. I’m as 61 year old conservative married white male. My wife and i love this show and just the other day were talking how funny the Richard Simmons show from the Drew Carey days was the funniest thing we have ever watched. We’re going to miss this show.
And I’m a 72 year old white guy from Minnesota who tends toward conservative (that means conserving the good stuff of western civilization, NOT resisting change for its own sake!!) who has enjoyed it since Drew came on board. Change is a constant … let’s see how the future plays out. . .
I’ll miss it heck yea
I too thought this would be a good fit for the reworked CW, At least this seems that they will go out with new, recently made shows. This currently airing season is made up of stuff that wasn’t aired from previous seasons, I believe. I will miss it. And I thought Aisha did a good job.
And so, the bloodletting continues at The CW. It looks like they are cutting deep, so I worry about the remaining series which I enjoy; i.e., Superman & Lois, Walker, Walker Independence, and The Winchesters. It doesn’t look good. 😒
Well that’s too bad. I’ve been watching the show since it was filmed in the UK. It’ll be strange to see it draw to a close.
Well, this is confusing. This seems like the kind of show the network would want to keep. Are they just going to cancel everything? Makes no sense.
The CW is just murdering everything, huh?
very sad news to hear. watched since the beginning and never not laughed. maybe someone can rescue this very funny and talented show.
Just patiently waiting for king Gus cancellation. That’s the last show I’ll have after star girls ends
I meant kung fu lol
🤣 thanks for clarifying, was very confused for a sec 😆
Oh my gosh, I love Whose Line! I have watched it the entire time. Such talented comedians to come up with such in the moment one liners comedy sketches! It will be truly missed. Hopefully another channel will pick up the series, it is too good to be lost!
I am so done with The CW. When the last episode of Who’s line airs, that will be the last time I watch this network. One of the truly funny shows out there.
My family love Whose Line. Keep it going forever.
Yes I will miss whose line, I try to make sure I catch it when it’s on and I record them as well.
That’s right take away all the show that people who can’t affort premium cable channels or other subscription stations.
Yeah I’m as soon as it anyway I watched it for a long time since my mom has been alive. I do not see why they’re going to take it off the air there’s no reason to. I will miss all you guys on whose line.
