Appearance
When Ran Haitani is shown as a teenager, he is quite tall and lanky, he is of similar height to the equally tall Hakkai Shiba. His hair is one of the most stylish in the whole series, and for a delinquent, that’s saying something (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 51).
His hair is made into very long pigtail braids, some sections of the hair are darker while the midsection and eyebrows are blonde in colour, making him a beautiful young man. He can be spotted wearing earrings and has been shown to have tattoos on the left side of his back.
During his years in Tenjiku, Ran Haitani was always seen wearing the gang’s uniform (Tokyo Revengers Manga: Chapter 155). In Rokuhara Tandai, he also wears a black version of the uniform… so it’s safe to say that he likes black. Being a Bonten Executive, he has lost some of that teenage swagger as he now wears a well fitted suit, a tattoo can be seen on his neck and his hair is now shorter while being gelled to the side (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 51).
Personality
Ran Haitani always looks calm and composed with a lazy look on his face, anyways, he is far from lazy. He can get quite passionate about issues if need be, and he has great confidence in him and his brother’s abilities. The world of delinquents had the opinion that he and his younger brother didn’t need a team to rule over Roppongi (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 51).
He likes to tease and mock people, and it is very obvious that he is an arrogant fellow. While having a calm demeanour, he turns into an animal during fights, he can be very violent, ruthless and brutal and this influences his love for weapons in fights (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 128).
Even though he is a teenage criminal, Ran Haitani shows respect to people such as Izana Kurokawa and Kakucho Hitto, he is also very caring to his younger brother and will always try to protect him during fights (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 179).
Strength and Skills
Fighting Prowess
We have not seen Ran Haitani in a lot of battles, so not much is known about his strength and skills, however, from what we have seen, it is clear that he is a delinquent to be feared. During fights he operates under no rules of engagement. While trying to inflict the most damage on his opponents, he will resort to whatever technique that assures him victory.
An example of such a fight was the battle against the leader and vice leader of the Roppongi Kyougoku gang. He easily beat the leader with a swift kick and attacked the vice leader violently with continuous punches to the face, fracturing his skull (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 160).
As at the time of this fight, he was at the young age of 13, and he was strong enough to easily beat the leader of the Roppongi Kyougoku gang. The vice commander of the delinquent gang died from the injuries inflicted on him by Ran Haitani and his younger brother (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 160). Ran is well known for attacking his opponents with weapons such as iron rods, wooden batons or even bricks (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 128).
Weapons
One of the fights where he used weapons was the fight against Hakkai and Angry. Along with his younger brother, they continuously hit Hakkai on the face with a baton. Ran Haitani wielded a steel baton in this battle against the vice captains (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 161).
Facts
Here are some facts about Ran Hiatani: The name Ran means Orchid, while the surname means ash, and can also be translated as valley.
Past / History
Back in the days, Ran Haitani and his brother were legends of Roppongi, at the young age of 13, they ruled over all the delinquents in the area after defeating the leaders of the largest gang. That event has now come to be known as the ‘Roppongi Battle of the Ashes’. The aftermath of this event meant that the Haitani brothers became the undisputed kings of Roppongi even without a team (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 51).
Following the death of the vice leader of Roppongi Kyougoku, the Haitani brothers were arrested, sent to Juvenile detention and there they met the rest of the S62 generation that became like family to them. The S62 generation members founded the Tenjiku gang which became the largest delinquent gang in Kanagawa (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 160).
Affiliations
Tenjiku
After being sent to a juvenile detention centre, and meeting the rest of the S26 generation, they formed Tenjiku gang. The now disbanded gang was headed by Izana Kurokawa, they were big in Kanagawa and their influence was felt in Yokohama (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 155).
Rokuhara Tandai
Ran Haitani currently has the number 2 seat here and the gang is currently affiliated with the Kanto Manji gang. The motorcycle gang was formed during the Tokyo Sengoku Period and the leader was South Terano. The leader died in the ‘Battle of the Three Deities’, leading to them being affiliated with the Kanto Manji Gang now (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 208).Â
Bonten
In an alternate timeline, Ran Haitani becomes a Bonten executive. Bonten is an active criminal organisation and it is headed by Manjiro Sano. Bonten has been referred to as Japan’s most feared crime syndicate (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 195).
Relationship
Rindo Haitani
He has a very good relationship with his younger brother, even though Ran likes to take the spotlight for himself, he has shown to be deeply caring about his brother, Rindo Haitani. Rindo is also a gang member affiliated with Tenjiku, Bonten and Rokuhara Tandai.
Izana Kurokawa
Izana Kurokawa was the leader of Tenjiku and the S26 generation, he was also the half brother of Manjiro Sano. Ran Haitani had a lot of respect for him and was loyal to him (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 179).
Hitto Kakucho
Hitto Kakucho, just like Ran Haitani, was one of the four heavenly kings. He was very strong as was seen when he defeated Angry, being the only one among the Heavenly Kings capable of beating Angry. Izana treated him with a lot of respect (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 179).
Plot
Ran haitani first appeared in the battle between the Tokyo Manji gang and Valhalla, he appeared with his younger brother and they watched the fight as spectators without interfering (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 54).
The next time the Haitani brothers appeared was in the ambush against Toman, Ran Haitani attacked Mitsuya, hitting his head with a brick (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 128).
We see him in another scene, at the 7th warf of Yokohama Bay, where Toman launches an attack against Tenjiku (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 153). By this time, Takemichi is the acting president of Toman and without the squad captains, he will lead 50 delinquents to charge at 400 Tenjiku members (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 153 – 154).
The Haitani brothers appear again in a brutal battle against Hakkai and Angry, they defeat Hakkai by continuously hitting his face with a baton (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 161 – 162). The enraged Angry attacks Rindo Haitani, defeating him by knocking him unconscious. Angry quickly attacks Ran. Before Ran would react, his head had been smashed on the ground (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 163).
It was during this battle that Izana Kurokawa died and Kakucho was seriously wounded. The Four Heavenly Kings and other executives of the gang were arrested by the police after the fight (Tokyo Revengers Manga Chapter 185).
