Can’t use any Greek god/goddess names because we’re Christian but really love the pronunciation/sound of names like

- Antigone (Ann-tig-uh-nee)

- Ismene (iss-mean-ee)

Are there any more like this that aren’t ruined by context (Antigone and Ismene are both the result of incest from the play “Antigone”) or the names of Greek gods etc?

Looking for girl names primarily but cool boy names are always welcome :)

Women don’t really get the best stories in the Bible either, but here is a list of Biblical names.

Is there a rule about being a Christian and using a Greek god/goddess name? Lol. I’m a Christian and this is news to me. If you like the name, use it.

@HKD6232018,

just don’t *love* the association. Plus Ismene and Antigone are both born of incest which isn’t great

@indiana779,

aren’t all humans born of incest according to Christianity? I’m not religious but weren’t there just two people to begin with according to the Bible?

I’m also Christian so I get what you mean. Although I don’t think I’ll only use Biblical names, I do care about the overall meaning of the name whatever we choose. Here are some of my favourite Christian names that sound similar to Greek type names (and meanings):

Boys:

Elias (i-ly-uhs) - the Lord is my God

Zacchaeus (za-kee-uhs) - pure, innocent

Ezekiel - strength of God

Girls:

Athaliah (ath-a-li-uh) - the Lord is exalted

Apphia (aff-iy-ah) - fruitful

Seraiah (sir-i-ah) - princess of the Lord

@sazzle-ste,

oh cool! Apphia means fruitful that’s so interesting. Our son is Ephraim which also means fruitful

Calliope (pronounced Kuh-lye-uh-pee) is one of the Greek muses. Pretty name and comes with Callie as a good nickname
