The film, headlined by Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Rashmika Mandanna, releases alongside Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur. But, given the popularity of its key cast members among cinephiles, the film is expected to take the lead at the box office this weekend.
Animal is the story of Arjun Singh (Ranbir Kapoor), the son of a rich industrialist Balbir Singh (Anil Kapoor), who is ready to set the world on fire if someone hurts his dad. The complicated relationship between the two comes to a head when someone attacks his father. Bobby Deol is shown to be the nemesis of Arjun while Rashmika Mandanna plays Ranbir’s wife in the movie.
The film has received a ‘Adults only’ certificate and has a runtime of 203 minutes. Vanga, in a recent interview with The Hindu, said that the first cut on Animal was almost close to 4 hours. “The first cut of Animal was 3 hours 45 or 46 minutes. I chopped till 3:21. I have seen the film multiple times and it is an engaging film. Ranbir is a great performer and will not let the audience relax for a second,” he said.
However, despite its ‘A’ certificate and over 3 hours duration, Animal is expected to get a grand opening at the box office. Film producer and trade analyst Girish Johar told indianexpress.com, “Despite the adult certificate, non-holiday release and its longer duration, the film is set to have a massive opening, not only in India but also overseas markets.” He estimated that the film could earn Rs 100 crore worldwide gross, with Rs 55 crore coming from the Hindi market.

According to trade analyst Ramesh Bala, the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial is headed for a Rs 55 crores plus NBOC (net box office collection) opening in India.
