Went here 3/24/2019 for the first time. Two weeks ago we went to Mt. Creek so my son could try snowboarding. After waiting 2.5 hours in lines for tickets and equipment we then signed up for group lesson. By the time that was all done we were ready to leave. The place is a mob scene.
Now I wanted him to try skiing, by recommendation we tried Jack Frost. It exceeded my expectations! They open at 8am, we arrived 8:20 to get front row parking and NO lines whatsoever. ZERO.
I signed him up for a private lesson $100 for the hour much to his chagrin of course but it was so worth it. Even he appreciated it, the instructor Eric was great and it was definitely a valuable experience for a first time skier.
Once the lesson was over we hit the green slopes and after two runs we were doing blues the rest of the day. Had THE BEST day!
It's really a no frills place, food is under heat lamps....we didn't want to eat there which is why I only gave it 4 stars but if we had to we would have.
This could be the reason it's not overly crowded so i'll take that trade off.

Brought my 2 and 4 year olds here for their first time. I was very disappointed that they couldn't use the magic carpet. And there was no designated areas to learn - unless you're enrolled in a lesson. We were chased from two separate areas. They shouldn't charge for a lift ticket, when there are no lifts or space available for them to use.

Also, my 2 year old wanted to snowboard. They didn't have any boots remotely her size. So she ended up skiing, which was fine, but womp womp.

Save yourself the back pain, definitely take your little ones elsewhere.

We ski/snowboarded here in Feb. 2019- conditions were perfect! Their beginner slopes were awesome- my oldest daughter took a lesson and learned quite a bit. The only negative- you are not permitted to use the magic carpet unless you are in the ski school- would be nice for them to tell you this BEFORE you purchase a ticket- our little one isn't ready for the lift just yet...so for her, this was a waste of a day.

Unclear website that failed to mention a huge event would be taking place when I purchased our lift tickets or that ski school required advance reservations, which were unavailable because of the event. In a nutshell, what made the situation so bad though, was Steve's rudeness and refusal to do anything to help salvage our trip or attempt to satisfy paying customers in any way. We asked to speak to someone above Steve several times, both on the phone before our visit and again in person, but he maintained he was the final decision maker and wouldn't waver on standard policies. We would have been happy with a refund, a half day ticket, a midweek voucher for use another day, even an apology would have been better than his surly "too bad for you" attitude. And as a business owner, I fully understand the need for established policies, but when you screw up, you do whatever you can to make it up to the customer.

East coast skiing is kind of what it is but of all the resorts in the area this place is pretty great. Even when it is crowded there are a number of black diamond trails off to the right side that don't get too many people and the lift lines are much shorter. They did a good job of keeping snow even after a week where temperatures were in the 60's in Philly. Of course you are going to deal with some icy conditions here and there but this really wasn't that bad. My rating is based relative to other skiing experiences in the area.

My girlfriend and I were there President's day Monday. First, the skiing was amazing. The conditions were fabulous and no one was there but.....it snowed/ice/freezing rain the night before. The chair lifts were covered in this mixture. It would have been nice for the lift operator to have wiped/brushed off the seats. It's the little things that make a good place - great!

We decided to go snowboard on the Friday before President’s weekend knowing it would be insane over the weekend. Turned out to be a great idea. We had bought lift tickets and rentals via the website in advance. We arrived about an hour after opening and there was no line. However, it was still a slow process to check in, get the actual passes and pay for the helmet. This process should be streamlined a little better-like why can’t I go directly to the rentals since I already had my ticket? There was only one group of 4 in front of us for snowboard rentals and yet it seemed to take a long time to get the rentals. To rent a snowboard and then the helmet you have to fill out waivers… I feel like they could’ve told us that before we were actually standing at the counter. It’s probably what took the group in front of us so long. I’d say from arrival to actually getting on the mountain it’s about a half hour. Remember that’s with pre-buying tickets and rentals and basically no one in front of us. Snowboarding itself was great. It was warm out, not crowded, only 5 min wait for the lift. We loved the variety of trails. My boys are beginners and they thought it was a good spot because there were less “trick parks.” Also spent some time in the lodge-decent spot to get food, clean restrooms and take a break! Overall we had a great time and we will be back....just during the week!!

Most of the staff there are wonderful and very helpful. They genuinely tried to make guests enjoy their overall experience from the rental shop to the food area and guest services. A small handful of the group instructors were awful though. I wish that I had read the other reviews here about the instructors. The group lessons that are happening on the hill next to the ski rental area should be avoided at all costs. Both of my girls, who were 1st time skiers, took that group lesson. An old and short woman was getting loud with my 7 year child right away, about 5 minutes into the lesson, which naturally frightened her. When I told the instructor that she is anxious since its her 1st time, she said with an attitude "Sorry, I can't help you with that and moved onto another student and left my child in the snow crying." I had to go into the lesson area a total of 5 different times to help my child put her skis back on after they fell off. Some of the instructors didn't help her and ignored her. I set a timer on my phone and clocked 7 minutes of her sitting in the snow crying while the instructors either talked with each other or instructed others in order to keep the enormous assembly line of students moving. I realize that the mountain was crowded yesterday and the instructors were overwhelmed with the number of students but that's no way to treat new child skiers and worse after paying for lessons. Both of my girls spent 2 hours there and didn't even learn how to stop or turn. They were both in tears and wanted to go home right away after that experience. The group lesson ruined the morning for them. It was a complete waste of money and even worse was that I overheard 2 instructors talking crap about me because I had to keep going into the lesson area to help my child get her skis back on when they did nothing to help her. Some of instructors were calm, supportive, and wonderful at their jobs but a handful should not be dealing with children and need to be retrained on how to act professionally with all guests. My kids still had a great time on the slopes after I pulled them out of the lesson so I try recommend the resort overall but would caution any new skier on doing a group lesson there. I spent some time watching YouTube videos during lunch on how to ski and spent the rest of the afternoon teaching my children on my own. Moral of the story is avoid the group lessons at all costs!

Jack Frost is a great place to ski close to Philly or NYC. While it can get crowded the lift lines and lodge crowds are typically smaller than Camelback and Blue Mountain while still offering a good mix of terrain. The runs are also organize in a way that allow experienced skiers to get clear of those just learning the sport. All runs on the mountain do have these steep head walls that can be intimidating for novice skiers but are fun if you like rolling terrain.

Some tips:
- Get there early the mountain, parking, and lodge get crowded after 10am
- No night skiing. JF doesn't have lights so skiing is done by 4pm
- Take a break at 11am and ski past lunch. The lodge is packed from 11:30 to 2pm
- Experienced skiers should head to the East side of the mountain
- Take advantage of the free back check to store you valuables
- If everyone is over 21 head up to the E2000 Bar to get away from the kids/crowds
- Drive a Subaru? Get free preferred parking on MLK weekend

Though it is not my first choice in Eastern Pennsylvania skiing I can see why Jack Frost ski resort is an enduring favorite with numerous local, vocal and somewhat radical devotees. Jack Frost served up an excellent ski surface with reasonably good grooming. The slopes to skier's right are quite steep but unfortunately not very long. The chair lifts are slow and somewhat outdated.

The Lodge is at the Summit and you ski down from there. The view is quite picturesque with a stream rambling by at the base. There is a large cafeteria set up and well as small coffee and sandwich areas.

Even on a busy Sunday afternoon the lymph lines were almost nonexistent though the trails did get somewhat crowded.
