Jeff Wayne – Jeff Wayne's Musical Version Of The War Of The Worlds

This is my first ever copy of this album at the ripe age of 52 years. I have only ever heard excerpts on the telly and radio... until now, playing this vinyl on my highish end hifi. Wow, so this is how it really sounds. Beautiful sonics. Don't know how this compares to other pressings, but I am not going to worry about it. I can easily live with this pressing. Bought for £10 in as close to mint condition as is possible for a record that is 45 years old.

Why europe? it's made in Holland. There are so many verions to difficult to find under europe.

I do think that this is a really decent collector's edition of a very famous and well received concept album. However, I find it incomprehensible so much space and time is given over to 'filler' yet the full versions of the Chris Thompson vocal version and the original Steve Thompson 1979 12" remix of "Eve Of The War" are represented in mere truncated 'snippets'. Why? Neither of these versions were available on CD before (the 1989 re-release of the Steve Thompson mix isn't the same as the '79 issue) and so their editing on this set is really criminal.

How many of these were made then? any idea anyone

The original 1978 LP and the 1985 CD have the best sound. Later releases are victims of the loudness war.

Bought this album on a whim. It's awesome. Highly recommend picking up a copy of this.

Very impressed by this repress. No defects, distortion or whatsoever on my (above average quality) system. Are we sure this is not a remaster? I hear some different details on this 2018 version compared to my 1978 original. For instance the first part on side D (Brave new world): some guitar parts are definitely different, some brass instruments I don't remember they were there. Also the last 5 minutes of side C is different.

A beautiful package, eye candy and artistry, too bad it sounds terrible. There is an entire page at the end of the booklet describing all of the technical gymnastics used to achieve this awful sound and it even starts by referring to the pitiful 96db bandwidth that engineers had been saddled with on CD, imagine 96db of bandwidth and no noise floor, just not getting it done, right!?

I have a promo pressing of this with record A having sides 1 & 4 on it and record B having sides 2 & 3; it is not a labelling error either. Should I also mention is sounds awful?
