Is it currently possible to wipe and set up a PlayBook, or is the BB10 server unavailable?

I think it's ok today - but won't be in March as announced.

Thanks, Conite! I hope you've been well!

I still use my PB with stock apps for local video and music files. Video and sound quality is still excellent, and it's better than my iPad for simply grabbing media files to go from my network via a Windows device.

Thank goodness I only keep a few files on it at a time though, as the file system is really obsolete (though still better than iOS in important ways!)

As the PlayBook requires BBID authentication every once in a while, it looks like the end for it come March.

I'm doing well, and still hang out here for some strange reason! Lol. Good to see you.

Yeah,I hate the amount of e-waste that mobile tech has created with all the rapid iteration in hardware and software, but that will be a game-ending issue for most uses unless airplane mode prevents it, which I haven't tested.

Was worse back in the early PC days.... two or three years was all you could use a PC back then before it wouldn't run the latest OS and software - pounds more waste than a mobile device of today. But the PC market matured and people today could easily use a modern PC for 5 - 8 years or more. Some cases same maybe true of mobile devices as well., we have reached a point where not much really changes in the short term.

But long term... technology always moves forward in spurts.

Will say my iPad Pro finally managed to provide a sound that exceeded my PlayBook from a decade ago. Not that I use it's external speakers all that much... but that was the first thing I thought about.

Certainly, there's no reason that modern tablets shouldn't sound better than ones a decade old! But often the pressure to keep costs low and build thin devices compromises the circuit paths, component quality, power and speaker size.

That is interesting, will have to check. Like you, I have found the Playbook speakers near unbeatable compared to any other tablet or phone I have encountered so far.

I was just having another look at my Playbook last night, I realized the default contacts app was also the best. Ok now the social media connections are broken, but not only did it have basic info, it had the links to social media, has a list of upcoming meetings for each person, keeps a track of where you met them in the past, who else in your list is also linked to them, etc. This would (is) a kick-*** feature. Not even my full-fat corporate Outlook desktop client is as good.

Mind you, I also think the default calendar app is still one of, if not the best one as well. So pleasant to look at and use.

The email is just passable but all 3 still sync perfectly to my Outlook.com account.

Will be sad to see it go. Will it really brick if it can't regular talk to BlackBerry HQ? Not even for offline video playback?

LOL you guys are as old as I am.
I also have a few of those - how about
    Atari 2600
    Coleco Pong machine

Listen there must be a way to get blackberry to allow us to authenticate the server somehow. I have like 2 or 3 of these playbooks and they were very good quality. I want to get them working again to watch videos. Liked the size.

What do you think guys? I send form notices to blackberry with my email and no response.

    thanks
