Thinking of leasing a Toyota Crown?

The U.S. News Best Price Program saves users an average of $2,287 off the MSRP, and a lower price equals lower monthly lease payments. That means you could see a savings of $63 a month on a 36-month lease.

Drive and Performance 6.5/10

The 2024 Toyota Crown feels heavy but composed out on the road, with fairly responsive steering and minimal body roll in corners. The Crown's ride prioritizes comfort over athleticism, so it's not the most dynamic option on the market, but it gets the job done. All-wheel drive is standard, which also helps with traction.

The base powertrain in the Crown features a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors — one on each axle — that produce 236 horsepower. This powertrain is paired with an electronic continuously variable automatic transmission (eCVT), which is fairly unobtrusive. Acceleration is tepid with this powertrain, and the engine can get noisy at high speeds, but it works fine overall for everyday needs.

The available Hybrid Max powertrain is only available in Premium trim. It consists of a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors that make 340 horsepower, and it comes with a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission. This setup is certainly quicker than the standard option, and it's quieter, but you will pay more at the pump.

Fuel Economy 7.2/10

The 2024 Crown returns unimpressive fuel economy estimates for a hybrid car. This Toyota gets an EPA-estimated 42 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway with the base hybrid powertrain and 29/32 mpg city/highway in models with the turbocharged system.

Interior 6.2/10

The 2024 Crown has a fairly well-built cabin with materials such as synthetic leather, cloth and soft-touch plastics, and genuine leather upholstery is available in higher trims. The cabin is fairly comfortable, but it's also a bit drab and unimpressive when compared to many rivals. The Crown seats five people. Every seat has decent cushioning, but head space is tight throughout the cabin because of the coupe-style roofline. On the plus side, the driver has a high seating position, allowing for great visibility.

The Crown has 15.2 cubic feet of trunk space, which is average for a hybrid car. The rear seats fold down to create a bit more room for larger items.

Value 6.1/10

The 2024 Toyota Crown has a below-average value rating for the hybrid car class. We determine value based on the vehicle's estimated total cost of ownership, along with the vehicle's MSRP for its base and top trims.

Safety N/A

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the 2024 Toyota Crown a 2024 Top Safety Pick. This Toyota comes equipped with standard safety features such as forward automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

For installing child safety seats, there are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats. The Crown also comes with a tether anchor for the rear middle seat, and you can borrow lower anchors from the adjoining seats when they're not in use. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave this LATCH system a Good+ rating, which indicates that it's among the easiest and most versatile to use.

Quality and Reliability N/A

The 2024 Toyota Crown does not have a predicted reliability score at the time of writing.

Critics’ Rating 5.7/10

The 2024 Toyota Crown receives a critics' rating that is below average for the class. This rating, which is driven by our qualitative research, represents the overall tone and recommendation level that the automotive press places on a car.

Pricing

How Much Is a 2024 Toyota Crown?

The base Toyota Crown XLE is priced at $40,050 and it comes with standard features such as heated front seats, a 12.3-inch touch screen and adaptive cruise control. Stepping up to the midrange Limited model trim will cost you $45,650, and this trim adds niceties such as leather upholstery, ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. Which Is the Best Toyota Crown Model to Buy?

Unless the stronger powertrain is calling your name, the base XLE trim should suit most shoppers' needs. The XLE comes with a good amount of standard features, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and wireless device charging. This trim is also the most fuel-efficient of any Crown model.

Is the 2024 Toyota Crown a Good Car?

There are far better options in the hybrid car class than the 2024 Crown. This Toyota comes equipped with a good amount of standard features, but it fails to compete with more well-rounded rivals. The Crown is held back by tight passenger headroom, a bland cabin and dull driving dynamics. It's also pricier than many of its competitors. Before you make your final decision, check out the well-rounded Honda Accord Hybrid or the Crown's Toyota sibling, the Corolla Hybrid. Both are more enjoyable to drive than the Crown.

2023 vs. 2024 Toyota Crown: What's the Difference?

The Advance Technology package gains a few more features for 2024, but otherwise, there's not much difference between the 2023 and 2024 models. Toyota introduced the Crown as an all-new vehicle for 2023.

2024 Toyota Crown Versus the Competition

Toyota Crown vs. Toyota Camry Hybrid

The Toyota Camry Hybrid has better packaging and offers more overall value than its Crown stablemate. While both of these Toyotas share similarities such as comparable cargo space, the Camry Hybrid has more passenger headroom than the Crown, returns better fuel economy and has a lower starting MSRP by more than $10,000. On the other hand, the Crown has a stronger available powertrain and offers a unique high-riding experience that's more akin to a small crossover. Still, we suggest sticking with the Camry Hybrid, as it has more to like for a lower price.

Toyota Crown vs. Honda Accord Hybrid

The Honda Accord Hybrid is one of the best options in the hybrid car segment. The Accord Hybrid offers a gentle ride, dynamic handling, a user-friendly infotainment system and a spacious and handsome cabin. The Honda also gets better fuel economy than the Crown, and it has a lower starting MSRP by about $8,000. There's really no reason to pick the Crown over the Accord Hybrid.

The top Platinum trim has a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors that make a combined 340 horsepower, and this powertrain comes with a six-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard on all trims.

"Just when it seems there are no new ideas under the sun, Toyota unveils the Crown, a raised hybrid sedan with AWD. We’ve seen a few high-riding sedans in years past, but none this big, with all-wheel drive, and a hybrid powertrain. The Crown name was used on past Toyotas, but who needs a history lesson when there’s a distinctive new car to explore? Perhaps this is the beginning of the end of the SUV craze. Where people realize they don’t need so much interior space and would prefer something with better aerodynamics and is easier on gasoline. Probably not."
