Who Is Kim Morgan? Mexican Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro Secretly Married Her!

Congratulations are in order! Although apparently, it happened earlier this year, it has been reported that Guillermo del Toro married Kim Morgan in a very private and secret ceremony.

The news was first revealed by Variety. According to the outlet, it was not a big announcement, instead, the director gave themselves away at the LACMA’s Art + Film Gala when he started introducing Kim Morgan as 'mywife.'

Guillermo del Toro was first married for three decades to art director and veterinarian Lorenza Newton. They met in Guadalajara, Jalisco while both were attending school. In 1986 they married and worked together for the first time on a movie, Doña Lupe.

However, after thirty years together and two kids, the Mexican director revealed in 2017 that he separated and months later divorced. Later, in 2018 at the Academy Awards he appeared with Kim Morgan by his side and everyone started speculating why his wife was not there.

That was Guillermo Del Toro's big night. He previously directed big films like Crimson Peak, Pan's Labyrinth, and Hellboy, but that night he won the Academy Award for 'Shape of Water, and when the director dedicated the Oscar to Kim and not his wife, the gossip was unstoppable. “I want to thank the people that have come with me all the way. Kimmy, and my kids...” the director said in his speech.

At the time, Guillermo spoke to Reforma and clarified that Kim was not the cause of his divorce. “She is working with me, we have a good friendship," said Del Toro. "In case any news appears, let's clarify that I separated in February. I started working with her at the end of the summer ”. he said, without giving much detail about the real reason for his divorce.

Now, in case you are wondering who Kim Morgan is, she is a famous screenwriter in Hollywood. She has been a judge at the Sundance Film Festival and also co-directed the Telluride Film Festival.

Before marrying Guillermo del Toro, she was married to Canadian filmmaker Guy Maddin who is prolific in doing short films, but also experimental films like The Green Frog, The Forbidden Room, or My Winnipeg.

Now, as a very interesting fact here, Guillermo del Toro and Kim Morgan worked together in his upcoming film 'Nightmare Alley' which is based on the 1946 novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham. The trailer was released a few weeks ago and the cast includes  Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Rooney Mara, Ron Perlman, and David Strathairn.
