Marjorie Evans Gallery

The Marjorie Evans Gallery at Sunset Center supports local and regional artists and features one artist or arts collective every two months. Artists exhibit their work at no cost and Sunset Cultural Center does not ask for any commission on work sold during the exhibit. The gallery's mission is to enhance our region's rich artistic history by bringing a variety of art to the community, to make it easier for people to have access to art, and to enhance people's knowledge and appreciation for a wide range of mediums. The gallery has gained a reputation for bringing in highly respected local artists as well as their customers and friends from outside of the area to Carmel.

Sunset Cultural Center is proud to welcome Stephanie Langley: Garden Party to the Marjorie Evans Gallery for a two-month-long exhibit throughout May and June. A public reception with Stephanie will be held on Tuesday May 14, from 5-7pm.

Stephanie was born in Merced, California and grew up in Monterey, CA. She became interested in drawing and painting as a teenager and has drawn and painted continuously throughout her life. Stephanie moved back to the Monterey Bay Area in 2016.

Stephanie's professional background is in illustration and graphic design. She studied graphic design at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA, and then took her BFA in drawing at the California College of Art in Oakland. She has worked as a national illustrator and graphic designer and has also been an art educator for Elementary schools. With her background in illustration, the idea of narrative fine art seemed like a logical direction for Stephanie's work to take, and since moving to the Monterey Peninsula she has been working full time as a painter and putting her ideas on to canvas. Stephanie loves contrast and she likes to juxtapose abstract, representational forms and differing styles of art to create ambiguous stories and images. She has also discovered "Plein Aire" painting since moving back to the Peninsula and what a joy it is to sit in nature paint what is observed

Stephanie Langley: Garden Party will be on display in the Marjorie Evans Gallery until June 28. The gallery can be accessed Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm and while the venue is open for any public event or performance.
