The GE Appliances 27.9-Cubic-Foot French Door PVD28BYNFS Refrigerator is a high-end, door-in-door model with a significant amount of space. This model offers extra storage space in the door of the refrigerator for tall items like bottles. It also contains removable bin caddies, vegetable crisper drawers, and an external refrigerated drawer with adjustable temperature settings.
This GE refrigerator also includes features like an in-door ice maker, an advanced water filtration system with an auto-fill sensor that allows you to dispense the exact amount of water you want, built-in Wi-Fi, and LED lighting. It’s also designed with dual evaporators that enable TwinChill climate zones to keep the fresh food and freezer sections at two separate climates, helping to maintain your food’s freshness in each.
With its built-in Wi-Fi, this high-tech fridge sends notifications to your smartphone, allowing you to customize settings like the light brightness. It also notifies you when the door alarm is set off due to the fridge being left open.
This model is a bottom-freezer refrigerator, which has deeper storage space than most side-by-side or top-freezer refrigerators. The freezer section also features Turbo Cool and Freeze technology, which is designed to drop the inner temperature to keep it cool even if you open the door multiple times.
For families with small children or anyone who is bothered by the sight of streaks on surfaces, this GE refrigerator is made with fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, making it easy to wipe away any smudges for a consistently clean look.
This refrigerator is quite large, standing at 69 ¾ inches tall, measuring 48 ⅜ inches deep with the door open, and holding a total capacity of 27.9 cubic feet. While it’s an Energy Star-rated fridge, it still consumes quite a bit of energy compared to other models in our rating at 758 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year with an estimated yearly energy cost of $91.
In our Best Refrigerators of 2024 rating, this model places at No. 3. Though it’s one of the more expensive models in our rating, this top-of-the-line refrigerator comes recommended for large tech-loving families in need of extra food storage space.

If you’re on a budget, there are other refrigerator brands with cheaper French door models to consider. For example, the Samsung 28-Cubic-Foot French Door RF28T5F01 Refrigerator offers roughly the same amount of storage capacity but costs significantly less at $2,999.
Refrigerator Capacity: 15.71 cubic feet

GE Appliances 27.9-Cubic-Foot French Door PVD28BYNFS Refrigerator vs. Frigidaire 13.9-Cubic-Foot Top-Freezer FFHT1425V Refrigerator
When comparing the GE Appliances 27.9-Cubic-Foot French Door PVD28BYNFS Refrigerator to the Frigidaire 13.9-Cubic-Foot Top-Freezer FFHT1425V Refrigerator, the GE is significantly bigger. So if you need extra storage space, the GE fridge may be the better option. This is especially true if you need more freezer space, as top-freezer models like this Frigidaire have limited freezer capacity.
However, if energy consumption is a priority of yours, the Frigidaire model is much more energy-efficient than the GE fridge. Both are Energy Star-rated, but the Frigidaire consumes just 332 kWh per year – compared to the GE’s 758 kWh per year – and has an estimated yearly energy cost of $40.
Both have similar features like flexible storage bins and humidity-controlled crispers, but the Frigidaire lacks the tech features that the GE has, like a water dispenser with auto-fill sensors and built-in Wi-Fi. At the same time, this makes the Frigidaire significantly cheaper at just $929.
If you like a lot of tech, need extra space, and don’t have tight budget constraints, this GE French door model is a good choice. But for people seeking a more affordable option who don’t need a ton of storage space, the Frigidaire top-freezer model may be more appealing.

GE Appliances 27.9-Cubic-Foot French Door PVD28BYNFS Refrigerator vs. Samsung 23-Cubic-Foot Four-Door RF23A9675 Refrigerator
The GE Appliances 27.9-Cubic-Foot French Door PVD28BYNFS Refrigerator and the Samsung 23-Cubic-Foot Four-Door RF23A9675 Refrigerator are similar when it comes to features like Wi-Fi connectivity and a fingerprint-resistant finish.
However, the Samsung is larger and offers more storage space than the GE model. The Samsung also has a Dual Ice Maker that makes ice in different sizes and triple evaporators to provide more precise temperature and humidity levels for the different compartments of the fridge. The Samsung model has a modern look with its flat-panel, four-door design that comes in a wide range of colors, whereas the GE fridge only offers one standard stainless steel finish.
In terms of customizable options, the Samsung is also available in two sizes, making it suitable for a range of kitchen sizes. There’s the full-depth model, which is the 29-cubic-foot capacity version, and the counter-depth model, which is a more space-saving 23-cubic-foot model.
The GE model is several hundred dollars more expensive than the cheapest version of the Samsung – the full-depth, stainless steel option. However, different sizes and finishes of the Samsung come closer in price to the GE. When it comes to choosing between the two, it may simply boil down to aesthetics.
