Excellent compilation of many Cantor standards. Bought this for only one song (Ida, Sweet as Apple Cider* from November, 1944) but pleasantly surprised by the whole CD. Recording dates, orchestra, and venue provided in liner notes; earliest, a single, appears to be 1919 with good quality for the period. Many of the later songs are from 1940's and are excellent audio quality. And many for the intervening years. 26 tracks in all. Cantor was a very special talent. *Hadn't realized till a bit of searching that Ida was his wife's name - and that they had five daughters.
This CD has most of Eddie Cantor's best known, songs. There are some changes in some of the verses from other recordings, but maybe it was to make them a bit different. All of the recordings are very clear and there are lots of snappy songs, which are my favorites.
I have now purchased several Living Era CDs, and have been very pleased with each one, particularly finding them at bargain prices!
At the time of writing, this collection cost me 3p (yes, 3p) plus postage. With prices like this, it's worth purchasing just to "sample" the artists' repetoire.
Again, a winner from Living Era. Some tracks are VERY early circa 1920, but most have transferred well from the 78s.
A good, mainly uptempo collection of songs from "Banjo Eyes"!
