Prime Video's Fallout helped Ella Purnell become one of 2024's breakout stars, but her latest casting is completely unexpected after her recent success. Although Purnell already had an impressive resume, her brilliant performance as Lucy MacLean is one of her biggest roles yet and helped make her a massive star. Purnell did a fantastic job of showcasing Lucy's journey from a sheltered vault dweller to a survivor adjusting to life outside the vault, crafting a sympathetic yet hilarious character that perfectly summed up the world of Fallout. Despite this, her latest role takes Purnell's career in a completely different direction.

Fallout showed that Purnell is capable of leading a huge franchise, as the show broke viewership records for the streaming platform. Having accumulated over 80 million viewers, Fallout's success has led to Amazon confirming a second season of the show, continuing to prove just how much star power Purnell now possesses. This elevates her status in the entertainment industry and will likely give her a choice of prestigious roles to choose from; however, Purnell's new upcoming movie diverts all expectations and indicates the actress will still take on some smaller projects, despite having more attention than ever.

Ella Purnell Will Star In A Horror Film About Killer Squirrels

The Scurry Will Feature Purnell As A Park Attendant Facing Killer Squirrels

Ella Purnell covered in blood as Lucy in Fallout

Ella Purnell will follow up her incredible Fallout success with a horror film about killer squirrels. The movie will be titled The Scurry, and while information is limited on the project, the premise of the film seems ridiculous yet exciting. The movie will follow a park attendant played by Purnell, who has to use her skills to survive a group of killer squirrels. Although The Scurry is dubbed a horror, it will also have plenty of humorous elements given it's being directed by Craig Roberts, who is best known for combining comedy with other genres like drama or romance.

The Scurry does not have an official release date.

Given the plot is already pretty far-fetched, it makes sense to go down the comedy-horror route as it fits Roberts' style while allowing Purnell to show off her range. According to Screen Daily, Rhys Ifans, Antonia Thomas, and Paapa Essiedu are all confirmed to be part of the cast, with filming already underway in the UK. The Scurry is not the sort of project anyone expected Purnell to take on right after her Fallout success, but the fun and silly premise is certainly exciting and could end up being a great career move for the actress.

Purnell’s Latest Role Is A Breath Of Fresh Air After Fallout

Purnell's New Film Is A Massive Contrast From Her Fallout Role

While The Scurry may not be the big, mainstream project many were expecting Purnell to take on after Fallout, the role is a breath of fresh air. There will undoubtedly be plenty of large franchises interested in Purnell, but joining a comedy-horror film is much more refreshing than jumping straight to the Hollywood juggernauts. She will have plenty of opportunities to participate in huge blockbusters, but opting to do something less conventional and more outlandish shows that she isn't getting caught up in the Fallout success and still wants to have fun with her upcoming project.

Purnell seems like she will be a good fit for the horror genre, and her new film is the perfect way to show her skills while flexing her comedic chops. Despite some of Fallout's serious elements, her performance as Lucy MacLean was hilarious and Purnell was also funny in Kick-Ass 2, indicating that The Scurry will utilize her strengths. While it will be great to see Purnell associated with some big franchises down the line, there is no need to rush into these roles, and being involved in her killer squirrels horror will be a surprisingly refreshing project after Fallout.
